Title: E-Z Mate Couplers - Need Help
Post by: Edo on July 03, 2009, 10:10:33 PM
I plan to convert Gordon and James to DCC.
In the meantime I would like to couple the cars from the Gordon and James sets to work with DCC Engines that have E-Z Mate Mark II Couplers.
Would the BAC 78035 be the correct coupler for Annie and Clarabel and the other cars?

You don't want to go there. All the Thomas items have lower coupling mounts. My advice is to attach tiny-yet-functional hooks to the rolling stock and to your American locos. Use miniature chain to couple them.

He's making complete sense. The coupler mounts on the Thomas line locos and rolling stock are lower than the E-Z mate couplers mounts on American locos and rolling stock. You could add hooks that are"tiny-yet-functional" onto American locos and rolling stock. And to connect the Thomas locos and rolling stock to the Americans, just use chain (Walthers carries HO-Scale chain).

Make a transition car. Buy a normal car, unscrew/file down the coupler box. Pile up small layers of Balsa wood where the couple used to be until the coupler is Thomas Range low. Then re-install a coupler with a box after you drill a hole for the screw. Don't forget to glue down the wood.

Or try the chain idea:
Walthers: $3.49 - http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/116-29219

MB Klien's: $3.19 - http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/A_LINE_29212_Preblackened_Brass_Chain_12_Long_p/al-29219.htm

Hey Jack,
Did you just rip out the old and put in the new? I might do that, just to see if it'll couple up to anything.

It's not my photo, although the guy who did it is converting his models to Kaydees. (I think)
