Found it!

Now, can anyone tell me how to get the rear doors off the cab so that I can put the valve handle in its place inside the cab?

A special thanks to Loco Bill for his description of the difference between version 2 and version 3.   Others say the wheels will turn on version 2 but not on 3.  Bill's description says that the motor turns when you turn the wheels by hand.  Subtle but as it turns out for me, very important to say motor turns.

I was just given a version 2 or 3 - wheels turn - but motor does not.
The loco looks brand spanking new - but I am guessing its a version 3 with stripped gears.  Now I have a project locomotive.

Anyway - thanks again to Bill and to all you others who generously donate your time and experience to those of us who are rookies.

Thanx for the picture - I will use it and look again.

It seems the more I learn about this great hobby, the less I know about it.

I have not run the 10-Wheelers that I have collected, yet.  The Chassis 4 & 5 and Annies are displayed on shelves where they do get dusty.  I bought some new and others used.

Bachmann states lubrication by the number of operating hours.  Automobile oil changes are usually stated as the lesser of distance or months.  So, should I be lubricating these engines even though I am not running them now?

Large / Annie with a loose-in-box red valve handle
November 28, 2008, 08:38:58 AM
A year or so ago, I bought 2 Annies from authorized retailers - EBT & ET&WNC (both with the intricate W-something valving.  Both have been on my display shelf ever since.  Today, I found a miniture red tap handle - like an outside water tap handle - loose in the box.

There is one already on the engine but it's not evident to me where this second should go.   I have compared the Annies and my other 10-wheelers without success.  Local hobby shop staff do not know either.

Can anyone tell me where I should be looking to reattach the handle?

Large / Emmett Kelly Jr - Anniversary Edition?

Was the EKjr ten-wheeler produced as an Anniversary edition?  If not, is there a chassis 5 version?

Your picture is exactly the couplers in question . . .  "They are the Aristo-Craft hook & loop couplers" . . . no question in my mind

Thanx so much

Another endorsement for Stan and his product.

His decals include clear concise instructions and hints that work - even in my clutsy hands.

In my Big Hauler parts box, there's an odd pair of hook-n-loop couplers.

The majority of my couplers typically have a squiggly plastic spring to center the coupler and the hook is gravity fed into the loop.

The odd set has a metal coil spring that drives the hook into the loop.

Can anyone identify the odd pair.  (ie Is it an older version for Big Haulers or is it manufactured by a different company?)

Thanks for sharing your experience with a new guy.

Thank you all for your advice and experiences.

It seems the WS transfers that I had just purchased are the problem.  They will not stick to anything - and must have become stale at the hobby shop.

I think I will try some of the wet decals that were recommended.

Yes, I would like to try the custom decals you wrote about.
Perhaps I will have better luck with wet style than I am having with the dry transfer type.

Thanx for the offer

Two Bachmann Big Haulers have been painted with Krylon and look fine.  However, dry transfer decals will not stick at all to the painted surface.

Can anyone share their method of decorating the Krylon paint?

Thanx Wade   ;D

. . . your answer was brilliant.  Found it easily and removed the batteries.

Many thanx

I have an old (new to me) radio controlled Ten wheeler locomotive with plastic drive wheels.  I came fully operational and was demonstrated to be fully functional before I bought it.  Now I want to remove the batteries so that it can be stored for a while.

BUT - dumb as it seems - I just cannot find out how do I get the batteries out.  Can anyone tell me where to look and if there are any tricks.

Large / Re: How many cars behind a 10-wheeler

The video is very impressive.
Pulling up to a dozen cars seems like the limit I should set for the Annies.
Glad I read your posts before I started back to the frozen North.
A hobby shop here in Florida has passenger cars on sale for $35 (half the price in Canada). There is still a little bit space to fill in the trunk.

Thanx again.
