On30 / Re: rail truck crapped out
October 23, 2011, 09:29:57 AM
I started this conversation long ago ,they know the problems with gears,if they dont they should by now.Ive been waiting for a comment from the Bachman other than you can now get parts or return the item.

If you have the exploded photo that came with it,it will help.Theirs a screw under the drive shaft, you must remove the rear cover(4 screws) then you remove the driveshaft. On the back truckbed is a rectangular black box, remove the lid, theirs another screw inside that helps hold the body on,take your time the screws are tiny,it sounds bad but its not,

Jim Banner,The outdoor layout as I said would be great if it had buildings and scenery, but I just thought of it,where that shop is everything would probably be gone overnight, maybe that IS the reason.Sad aint it? As for me Ive always said I enjoy building the stuff and how it looks, could care less if it has trains or not,but guess thats NUTS !!!!

To Keith Weismen, your right all they ask is when it was purchased,if we send the warrenty cards in like we SHOULD,they should know ,thats why god created computers! As for gears it aint just Shays, the Climax and especially the railtrucks have issues too.Im talking customers out of Bachman railtrucks and started building my own using good power sources I dont have to be afraid of.All I can tell you is take a number and get in line, this could take awhile!

On30 / Re: Future of ON30

I sell alot of On30 models on Ebay,I no longer list in O or On3 only On30,the interest in the scale is high, not just in the US but all over the world. The scale now is too strong to let die.Our economy has hurt us all, their is no longer extra money for trains, guys just dont have the cash especially for brass.Although alot of us want DCC and sound their are many who dont or cant afford it,Bachman needs to pay attention to the little guy because their prices are creeping up to brass prices.Id like to see a company like MMI or BL come out with a GOOD Shay that dosent have gear problems, thats rare on brass locos. It would do Bachman good to have some compition in the marketplace, right now they have very little so we must put up with no so great locos.

To Railtwister,Once again I refuse to try to repair a brand new item, being that I customize, detail and weather then resell I dont think thats fair to the buyer nor do I want to HOPE when he gets it it works! If Bachman would feel the same way we wouldnt have these problems.Im not far from Philly so shipping cost isnt bad,Ill just keep sending them back one after another!

To Narrowminded,Being a custom builder Ive done hundreds of models,Ive never had any trouble with finishes, nor have the fumes overtaken me.I do however always laugh at how much time we spend building and painting a model to look perfect, then in a few minutes we screw the whole thing up with weathering!!!!!!!!!!By the way I have been overtaken more than once by that other alchol !

To Railtwister, I was told their are no longer gear problems on newer runs,my question is how many older units are out their that sooner or later someone will buy,HOW DO WE KNOW?The fact that they repair or replace is great but annoying cause ya gotta pack it and send it,then a phone call and finally you get it back.I see the Bachman man answeres the easy questions but so far hasnt touched this. What amazes me is people are still finding Lionel in attics that are over 100 degrees in summer and cold in winter and the locos have sat in boxes for 30 or more years.Set it on the track and off it goes, sure needs some TLC to get it in tip top shape but no problems,Get the hint BACH_MAN?

I agree ,more small steamers,I think most )n30 guys dont have big layouts to run long locos and most are into logging or mining, and yet I woulnt mind seeing a D&RGW K27 !

I am a custom builder,I recently returned a Railtruck with alot of work done to it,I removed what I could.I must admit they contacted me fast, but said the original could not be repaired which I find hard to beleive. After explaining my problem they did send a new one and the bad one back to me,I had to start all over again.I was assured their are no gear problems with these. To their credit both were at my door within a week.I would tell you to do as I did, return them to Bachman with a letter explaining the problem. If you purchased it within 1 year of your problem they will replace it,hopefully you sent the warrenty cards in.You may be doing your custom work all over again but at least you have something that runs!

For Mr Shay,I agrre 100% on your comment about John Allen and the great G&D,a real shame its gone.I also think theres another fellow who deserves alot of credit for more or less taking the hobby to new heights,Malcom Furlow accomplised things we never even dreamed of,I think he raised the bar more than once!Just wonder where he is and why you see nothing from him?I heard he had a major fallout we a train mag and stopped modeling.

On30 / Re: How to fix a stripped gear?
October 05, 2011, 11:28:37 AM
Hate to be an old GRUMP,but here we are talking about how to fix a problem that Bachman knows is happening way to often.Yes we can return it for repair but we shouldnt have to and then wait and wait and wait! Not how it should be !
