This engine starts running full speed as soon as my NCE system boots up.  I have tried a reset by writing 8 to CV 8 and only get a CAN NOT READ message. However, I was able to change CV 29 from 6 to 34.  CV 55 I also tried changing from 255 to 55. Niether of these seemed to help.  The MFG number comes back as 101 with a version 046.  CV 2 is set at 10.  I got this as a used engine in a swap fro some old HO gear and would like to fix it if I can. Any suggestions?  Programing the loco to a number other than 3 did not make a difference either.  It seems that maybe the decoder install was faulty and the motor is still connected to the wheel pick ups.  Using a DC power pack does provide speed control, stop and reverse.   Thanks  Tom

N / BachM Alco RS 4 N scale DCC equipped loco

I just switched to DCC and this engine was running although it seemed rather slow even at higher step settings.  It sometimes just stops and it sounds like some gears are turning and the wheels can't seem to get any traction. The track is new Kato and has been cleaned. One thing I did notice is that the front wheel of the rear truck (geared) turns freely as though it is not engage with any gear. This does not seem to be the case on any of the wheels on the forward truck. So I am wondering if something may have become disengaged in the truck and I only get drive from the forward truck which is nearly sufficient to run the loco let alone 4 cars. Any suggestions?  I am about to send it in for warranty repair.
