Title: take apart
Post by: oldguy on July 01, 2016, 11:16:46 AM
HO steam loco usra 0-6-0 with smoke & sloped tender.

I want to add sound and keep alive to it.  There is no way to tell how to take the engine apart except to break it at the front.  I took out the two very tiny screws on each side, which broke right off at the cast frame without much pressure!!  I unscrewed the back of the frame with no problem and it was lose from the plastic.

I really need to know how to take the engine apart without breaking it.

If you look very, very closely near the cylinder area where the two tiny screws are:

There are two metal pressure tabs. You can insert a small, flathead, jewelers screwdriver to spread the plastic away from the tabs.  The tabs are part of the frame.

It is tight and a bit difficult.  I felt like I was going to break the shell the first time I tried this.

Once you finally get the shell off, I recommend filing the tabs down just a bit.  Makes future removal much easier.

Regards,

Jonathan

Especially if you have access to a bigger hammer. ;)
