HO / Re: Spectrum steam engines and DCC sound

Most of these issues are related the turnouts NOT being dcc friendly, or not wiring up the frog itself to the switch machine.

What happens is with non dcc switches is that sometimes the rails short and then the train doesn't get power (power goes straight to ground instead of going through the locomotive)  The Soundtraxx Tsunami does NOT have a very large capacitor like the QSI engines.  So it doesn't have the energy reserves that the large when a short happens.

With DCC friendly turnsouts, you have two types.  Live frog (electro frog) and insulated frogs.  With electro frogs (the best there is to use with short locos), you have to wire the frog to the switch machine relay.

Please read the following article about DCC switches.

Looks like I got a little over zealous.  The website I saw has them listed, but they aren't in stock yet.  They are due to arrive shortly.

It's real close though!

Until recently Proto was switching the final gear ratios with every release.  I believe they finally settled on 18:1.

Is this a DCC ready, or DCC installed engine?

HO / Re: Bachmann Heavy Weight Passenger Cars

Hi Guys......I hear that Bachmann are no longer making Heavyweights. I have been searching for a Diner, Baggage and RPO.

Regards to all

Grahame

There was no RPO.  And the Bagagge car that Bachmann made was a combine that sat at the lead of the train.  The passenger side typically served as seating for the crew.  Needless to say it was very very nice, and no one else has bothered to make any.

I miss Bachmann's heavyweights.  They are/were good cars.

There's nothing listed.
How often does this get updated?  Anyone know?

RMA?  BTW, it's a J2, the J1, the original Mountain, was not a USRA Mountain.

Yep.  I know it's a J-2.  I didn't know that ommiting the version # automatically made it a J-1.  I guess I learned something new today.   :D

RMA = Return Murchandise Authrization.  It's a number they give you that's usually attached to some file at the company that says "we are prepared to accept this for XYZ."  You usually mark it outside the box.

Before I return these to Bachmann for service, I was wondering if I needed an RMA number from them.
