Post by: mechengr on January 19, 2008, 12:50:45 PM
are the front couplers on Spectrum series locomotives "active" or are they just dummies?

All the spectrum steam locos I have do have working front couplers.

That would include the:

2-8-0
4-8-2 Heavy
4-6-0
2-6-6-2

To my knowledge, the N&W J might be the only one in question that does not. It is readily apparent from the catalog photos that all the others have working front couplers.

I have to Spectrum 4-4-0 and it has a working coupler. You can see the spring. I removed it and installed the Kadee 711 old time coupler.

In addition to Sheldon's stable, I have the 4-8-2 light and the 2-10-2 light, both of which have operating front couplers.  If it says, Spectrum, it says "operating front coupler."

Hey guys; you want a tip?  Change that front coupler for a Kadee #58.  They look lots better, and function just as well as their bigger bro.  The last thing I want to see on one of my engines is that oversized lump of plastic!
