Title: New locomotive keeps derailing!
Post by: paulharv on January 08, 2017, 12:25:58 PM
I just got the Golden Spike set, and the EMD NW-2 switcher keeps derailing on curves. It's always the same truck that derails, and this truck doesn't turn as much as the other one.

Should I try and fix this myself, or contact Bachmann for a repair/replacement? (What a hassle...this shouldn't happen!)

Thanks

It should not be derailing.  The first thing to do is check the track for misaligned rail joiners.  Misaligned rail joiners is not an infrequent occurrence, especially when using sectional track.

If you're not mechanically inclined, send it back.

Thanks to you both. It's not a problem with the track. It turns out that if I run it forward anti-clockwise it doesn't derail. Simply, one of the trucks isn't fully maneuverable...

Pick it up and check movement of the trucks: lateral, side to side, and up and down. If anything is blocking it, use a Dremel to grind away part of the shell to that there is clear movement.
