Amtrak would have no use for a GP50, it's a freight locomotive. Kato does make P42's however.  www.katousa.com

As to the "wasting" of electrical energy in the form of heat during dynamic braking, the latest General Electric "green" road unit actually does have batteries to store at least some of that electrical energy to be used in starting and accelerating the train. Don't think any have been sold yet.

There have been several versions of the T1 made in N scale, in brass. NJ International made one, and I believe Key has made two versions. The most recent duplex was a Q2 from Key. Costs over $1000 and requires a 24"minimum radius, in N scale.

You'll only find them used, on eBay for example, and they'll cost more than $500.  :o

Y'all is not substandard English, it is the plural of "you". Sure beats the pants off the "youse" many of you Yankees use! Y'all is gaining acceptance nationally.

The three foot gauge sugar cane harvesting railway of Godchaux Sugar hung on in Reserve, LA, in to the late 1950's. Here's its No. 7 in December, 1958:

How could one not fall in love with a "teapot" like No. 7?  8) ;D

N / New Spectrum steam - when if ever?
June 16, 2007, 09:33:08 AM
It seem Bachmann puts out three new HO scale Spectrum steamers for every one announced in N scale, and even more in On30. HO has gotten Ten-Wheelers, Decapods, Santa Fe's, K4s Pacifics, SJ Mikados, Heavy USRA Mountains, and now Americans with no equivalent N model. There's no reason the existing motors won't fit in the Santa Fe's, the heavy Mountains, or even the K4s.

Have us N scalers become such a querelous, demanding, bunch that Bachmann has written us off?  ???   When, if ever, can we expect another Spectrum steamer in N scale?  ???

As a student at Tulane University in New Orleans in the late 1950's-early 1960's, I had the privelege of operating on Frank Ellison's Delta Lines a couple of times. Frank had a Mikado that he operated as an 0-8-0 because "the d**n lead and trailing trucks keep derailing". Operations were paramount. He also tipped me off to Gochaux Sugar's last cane harvest using its steam powered railroad.

The correct coach for the PRR K4s is available from Model Power, which is a model of the PRR P70 coach as built. MP also has a model of the PBM70, a coach-baggage-mail combine, and an observation car roughly based on PRR parlor obsertvations. The paint job is so poor you'll need to repaint and decal the cars with Microscale decals.

The P70 means the interior of the coach was 70 feet long, so that the full length of the cars, with vestibules, was 85 feet. PRR had some P54 coaches used in Pittburgh commuter services, but these were pulled by G5's 4-6-0's and later by RS3's. So, long cars are correct behind a K4s.

The closest car to the P54 was imported by Con-Cor and made by Kato. What Con-Cor called a "diner' had the correct window arrangement.

When information of the quality of this e-magazine is available for free:

http://www.prrths.com/Keystone%20Modeler/Keystone_Modeler_PDFs/TKM%20No.%2046%2005-07%20PDF.pdf

it is kind of difficult to charge for any model railroad material on the internet, although Kalmbach is trying. Do you think you can compete with the staff of Model Railroader?

N / Re: Ho Gs4 daylight...why not in N scale?
March 07, 2007, 04:36:36 PM
Bachmann has done the PRR K4s as a Spectrum model in HO scle, believe it was the first Spectrum model. Yet, it has never been duplicated in N scale, although the Consolidation, Light USRA Mountain, and USRA 2-6-6-2 were.

It would be nice if the K4s were made in N, us SPF's would sure appreciate it and buy many.  8)
