Title: Track Incline
Post by: HO Bug on September 12, 2010, 11:02:19 AM
I have been involved with HO for about 7 years had to take time off for lack of funds.  Back into it know.  Need to know what the amt of track incline incline can be per foot.   Thanks

For every 100 feet of track, it should not go up more than 3 feet. Or for every 10 feet a max incline 0.3 feet or about 3.5 inches.

many would recommend no more than a 3% grade but i will go as high as 4%.

3% is approximately 3/8" rise per foot.
4% is approximately 1/4" rise per foot.

were you aware of the incline sets from woodland scenics? they take the guesswork out of building a grade.

Simple short-hand, close enough for model RR work:

2% grade = 1" in 48"
3% grade = 1" in 36"
4% grade = 1" in 24"
