General Discussion / Re: Show us your layout

Thank you Jerry.. I have posted a few more pictures on my photo library... Of the Air switches I installed 4 of them tonight on my layout if you would like to check them out... Jerry my Layout is 16 feet long x 6 feet wide / 52 inches high / 9 track Yard switching area / 2 track mainline / 3 track interchange / 1 tunnel portal track " It dead End's & I can store about 25 freight car's on the track" I park my Bachman Acela Passenger Train on that track now lol... I put a lot of time and effort into my Layout I am very proud of it & how far I have come with my layout in 2 1/2 years.....

& I wanted to be different & use Air Switches I could of went with Electric switches but my Grandfather used Air on his layout in his basement witch was 40 feet long  x 10 feet wide "he used all 4 walls of his basement for his layout" & the Air switch system was handed down to me...

Thanks jbrock.... I am glad you liked my layout.. It's 2 - 1/2 years in the making I hope to have all the scenery done by May - June. On average I spend about 2-3 hours on weekdays "after work" working on layout & Weekends I put in any where from 5-10 hours of time "even longer sometimes" into layout I enjoy it very much & every day I look forward to when I am done.. But now I have been having thoughts of extending my layout another 7 feet this way I will have the hole back wall of the basement.. I only stopped short on account of workbench I hardly use... LOL

I have the Bachamann HO trains and power supply units. What voltage is it? Need to know so I get the right street lights and other building lights.

Thanks,
Rookie

You can also get power from your layout wire as well to run lights No need to get another power supply..

HO / Re: DCC power to layout
February 16, 2014, 09:17:19 AM
On my layout I ran both red & black wire.... " not sure of the gauge " through my hole layout " drilled small holes in my roadbed & hooked up leads to the rail's to my 2 main wire leads underneath my layout.. I spaced them out about every 2 - 2 1/2 feet apart from each other.. in all I believe I have between 15-18 leads hooked up & my DCC equipped Loco's have no issues & I get no loss of power anywhere throughout my hole layout my headlight's horn sounds bell sounds are all nice & crisp... I do not like to use nor trust re rails for a power source I mean there OK for a under the Tree Layout @ Christmas time but not if your doing a layout... I have found most DCC systems run well on a layout supplying a constant amount of AMP's to the Loco's I do believe most DCC decoders LIKE about 3 AMPS of constant power supplied to them...  One of the reason's I wired my hole layout.. 1 of my fellow Train buddy's said I went a little overboard with the amount of leads I used but I wanted to make certain my Loco's would run smoothly...

Question how Big / Long are your turns on your layout.... Depending on degree of turns your steam loco might be BINDING... Watch your Loco very closely @ the wheels as they go through a turn for Binding issues & watch closely for any signs of the locos wheels Binding against the track rails... I dont run any steam on my layout " I model the diesel era witch is 16ft long x 6 ft wide... 2 track main..  3 track interchange.. 9 track yard... & run NCE DCC on my layout.. But try what it I suspect you have a Binding issue on the track rails around your turns...

HO / Re: 4x8 track plans

I org drew up designs for a 4x8 layout 2 years ago...... & figured I wanted to go BIG and build a layout that would see a lot of action with making up trains... switching in yard action... & switching in industries on sidings on the track.... Well to this day & 2 - 1/2 years later I have an L-Girder Bench work layout.... & is 16 feet long x 6 feet wide..... 52" inches high..... 2 track mainline... 3 track interchange... 9 track switching yard... I have 23 switches remotely controlled on my DCC controller... A NCE DCC system powers my layout.. all 7 of my loco's are DCC & sound equipped... I model all Diesel Era mid 70's to mid 90's  I was born in 75... I have pictures to post once I figure out how to get them posted on hear for everyone to take a look...
