HO / GE 50 tonner
December 31, 2020, 04:05:53 PM
I have a query that I hope can be answered. Could a GE 50 tonner be modeled by putting a pair of 44 tonner trucks on a 45 tonner? I mean like one of these.

Train Master's TV does a video on how to install DCC/Sound on a Bachmann 45 tonner in HO. An On30 body on it might be an easier installation.

Sorry buddy, it's not me. I do have to look up that article though. It sounds interesting.

JWard,
I think you mean the Whitcomb 65 tonners.

HO / Whitcomb 50 Ton Diesel Locomotive

Is there a chance of Bachmann making the 50 ton Diesel In HO any time soon? Bachmann already hit it out of the park with your GE 45 tonners. The Whitcombs would make a nice addition to the HO diesel lineup, especially in standard guage (hint, hint). Since layouts and train lengths are getting smaller, this engine would do very nicely as well as fit in many different eras.

Thanks. I'm thinking the Soundtraxx Tsunami TSU-750.

I first became aware of this railroad when Railfan and Railroad did a piece on it back in the 90's IIRC. The profiled it as the Quincy Bay Terminal and that's where I began my fascination with it.

Hi; Just thought I would say nice job.  I have always been a little partial to these locomotives.  Where I lived in E. Braintree as a kid, I had a good view of the switching spur that went over to Fore River Shipyard in the fifties. A long time ago, there was an article in Model Railroader-I want to say in January 68-but could be wrong-about a layout called the "Port Able" lines, owned by a one Bernie Delatorre.  It was pretty neat affair, which, as the name implies, could be taken up and stored, transported-what have you.  Good Luck to you here.
Rich C.

I was asked that once. I wish that I could have seen it. I came up with the name of the railroad to explain its concept. The layout comes apart into three 22 inch by 40 inch pieces to be (portable) and it will sit on my dining room table (por table).

I am a big fan of the Fore River/Quincy Bay line. That would be fun to model.

I love my 45 tonners and I want to post pics of the ones that I have.

Port Able Railway #2 (soon to get a permanent decal and new number to #5) delivering a BB&G boxcar to the Regina Manufacturing Corporation.

Penvan Railroad GE 45 ton locomotive #2 bringing a GERN covered hopper to RU Ready Mix.

I looked on the Bachmann parts catalog for replacement headlights for the 44 tonner and couldn't find them. I have  2 B & M 44 tonners, and I'm relettering them for my freelanced railroad (The Port Able Railway). The 44 tonners come with the headlight covers that show their road numbers, but I want the headlight covers that rest flush with the front end. Is there a way of ordering the flush headlight covers?
