To give you guys my honest answer......I would rather have a Southern Pacific P-8 like the one in the picture at the top of the page more than a 4-12-2. I just really love #2472. Its been one of our family's favorite engines. And to have that run with my Bachmann Daylight #4449.......it would be a dream come true lol.

HO / Re: Metal Wheel Tire vs Traction Tire
May 17, 2007, 04:12:38 AM
Thank you for the information Virginian. So metal wheel tires don't have a groove in the wheel? Its interesting that metal against metal would actually give traction. I'm guess metal wheel tires don't break nearly as easily also?

As for traction tires, I personally love them. Unless you have super old Rivarossi traction tires, the traction tires made now days work great, and very rarely break. They give a huge boost for pulling power. The ones now days don't make the engine wobble at all. I have a friend who machines out his own traction tire groove for his steam engines. He'll add 4 tires to an articulated steam engine, and have it pull tons of cars ;D

I would also like Bachmann Spectrum to have a spare traction tire axle included when someone buys one of their engines. It would really help my 2-10-2 pull a lot more.

HO / Metal Wheel Tire vs Traction Tire

PCM (Precision Craft Models) has something on their engines called "Metal Wheel Tires" which is suppose to be a new thing compared to Traction Tires.

My question is, what is the difference?

He would probably have to gave at least a 30 - 35" radii to handle one. Its something that would work better for BLI to make, and not Bachmann.

This would probably be the sharpest radii this engine could take shown here:

Supposedly, BLI is going to be making one. I'd rather wait for that sense they have sound in their engines :-)

This is a good idea. Sure, I want the 4-12-2... but bachmann probably won't ever make one. I've heard rumors of BLI making one tho. w00t!

Enough with the 4-12-2 Hoople. That topic was long over almost a year ago. Your starting to obsess on it a little too much.

Are there any plans of Bachmann or Bachmann Spectrum making a Southern Pacific P-8 type engine? I would really like to see one of the famous #2472 :)

since Bachmann already makes a 0-6-0t I think you are out of luck.  If I remember correctly I think someone did make a model of that locomotive.

If they did, it must have been in brass because I've never seen it.

However, will Bachmann make any with the more of the standard steam valve gear?

Bachmann offers a 0-6-0T in the Spectrum line that is DCC ready.

Oh good! Is there a picture of it? I didn't see it in the Product section of this website.

I am wondering if Bachmann can make any 2-6-2T's or 0-6-0T's?  I like the look of the Quincy 2-6-2T's....Or another branch line type 0-6-0T. Will Bachmann make any of these? And if they do, will they be DCC ready?

Something like this:

That would work perfectly!

I'm guessing Bachmann can't do another run of these? Or make a undecorated type version of those A-Tanks?

Please note that the original Bachmann A-tank (not the current Spectrum model) is an excellent model of the excursion tenders that were made from L&N M1 tenders.  I am not aware of any other non-brass A-tanks that match the N&W/NS excursion A-tanks.

If you can't find one of the original Bachmann A-tanks, you could get closer to the excursion A-tank by installing roller bearing Buckeye trucks in place of the Pilcher trucks on the Spectrum model.

The M1 tender was very similar to the tenders N&W modified into A-tanks, except for the trucks.

Can you give me a picture of what it looks like?

Remember that the auxillary water tender is an "end of steam" device.  As noted, almost all of them were bashed in company shops from retired tenders, removing the fuel bunker and converting the entire tender to hold water.
Yes, I'm almost positive that the UP A tenders come from turbine fuel tanks and are all excursion devices.

Interesting. It must have been the cheapest and easiest way to do it.

Can Bachmann build some of these? Do you know if any other company has built Auxiliary water tenders?
