N / wheel sets for ER-Models/Bachman "Sharks"
May 01, 2023, 11:41:26 PM
I'm looking for replacement wheel sets for the Sharks that were initially made by E-R Models and later taken over by Bachmann.  Are there any after market replacements?  Do any of the N scale diesels by Bachmann have the wheel sets that would be a replacement?  Thanks.  Problem is that the white gears on the axles are splitting -same problem with the early Spectrum GE- Dash 8 wide cab diesels.

N / Crafty, sly Bachmann! I didn't fall for it this time.
February 07, 2021, 02:17:53 PM
 Humor for the day:

Sitting on a cold, snowy day.  Dreaming of trains and what would be fun to add, being a steam fan I of course thought of a steam locomotive.  Then it hit me, I've got two ConCor/Kato Hudson's in my jackpot of locos that aren't DCC'd.  And I wondered if these old shells would fit on the new Hudson, well the B&O shell anyway.  Than I started to think who would have the best price.  I almost fell for their scheming, but NOT this time Mr. Bachmann!  Not this time.  I am holding out for a non PRR 4-6-2.  I'm on to you!  But keep up the great model work, and keep trying to get me.  :>}

N / Missed Christmas present
December 28, 2020, 11:55:59 AM
Dear Bachmann:

Hoping for next year!  Santa didn't leave me a USRA Heavy Pacific in N scale.  I was good, I asked nicely too.  Maybe you can help him out next year.  What a great mechanism you have for the PRR K4.  Maybe you can turn your elves loose and let them make a heavy and light Pacific with DCC and Sound?  One road name could be Baltimore & Ohio.  Thanks for listening/reading.

Yours Truly,

N / Headlight on Heavy Mountain replacemet
August 19, 2019, 03:18:01 PM
Can anyone tell me if the headlight on the heavy Mountain is a bulb or LED?  Does anyone know the voltage coming out of the decoder?  And finally is there a resistor for the headlight on the decoder or before the headlight?  Obviously you can guess that the headlight isn't working, not sure what has happened.  Before I started tearing things apart I was hoping to get these answers so I can be prepared to fix it right away.  Thanks.

N / Substitute Boilers
June 18, 2019, 10:01:53 AM
I'm considering purchasing a K-4 Pacific, but I don't want the Bellpaire firebox.  Does anyone know if any of the existing boilers available from Bachmann would fit the mechanism with very little or no modifications?  I've really been hoping that they would give the mechanism a USRA boiler, but I get impatient.  thanks.

N / need to regauge wheels and drivers
December 09, 2018, 11:27:21 PM
I have noticed that a few of the Bachmann steamers that I possess have an occasional driver or wheel set out of gauge.  Aside from using two small screwdrivers to kind of pry them back to the proper gauge, is there any tips or tricks that make this easier?  Are there any cautions?  Thanks.

N / no response from GP7 w/DCC
August 25, 2018, 03:10:39 PM
I have no response from my GP7.  DIgitrax DCS-100 command Station, DT402D throttle.  Original decoder.  I have no response on the road number address or the default 03.  Using Decoder pro, I get a message of no acknowledgement from the locomotive (308).  Any help out there?  I also can't reset the decoder.  Thanks.

N / Bachmann ever considered a buy back for locos
August 14, 2018, 11:59:18 PM
Wondering if Bachmann has ever considered a buy back program for locos when newer versions are made.  For instance, the light 4-8-2, there are lots out there and since your releasing one with DCC and Sound you might get a lot of trade-ins.  Of course, the value given would be contingent on the condition of the trade-in.  It would increase the spare parts available for repairs.

N / K-4 and other boiler shells
February 17, 2018, 11:50:16 AM
Are other boiler shells, such as the Light/Heavy mountain or the 2-10-2 shell compatible with the K-4 4-6-2 mechanism?

I like the idea of the DCC and Sound on a good Pacific mechanism.  While a competitor markets a Pacific, the boiler detail is a deal breaker and I don't run PRR so I'm looking for a Pacific to call my own.

N / noisy 4-8-2 and 2-10-2 N steamlocos
November 17, 2017, 04:44:24 PM
Just a question.  I've purchased a couple of 4-8-2 and 2-10-2 locos and they sound a little noisy.  A little like gears grinding.  Before I tear into them, has anyone had the same thing?

N / Heavy 4-8-2 questions RE: wires and running DCC
February 06, 2017, 11:28:24 PM
Pulled out a Heavy Mountain that I'd gotten a while ago and began to run it.  I was running great, but with occasional stuttering and stalling.  I did what any of us would to and took the tender apart as the first steps in checking for problems.  First thing I noticed was  that all of the wires running from the loco to the tender had a lot of the insulation paint gone the copper wires were bare.  I also noticed this in the tender with the decoder wires.  My question is should these wires be insulated?  What with; paint or liquid tape?  Could this be responsible for the stutter or stall? Thanks in advance.

N / Start voltage and speed for 2-8-4
January 21, 2017, 05:26:49 PM
I recently lost programming for my 2-8-4; actually just the address and some other settings.  I'm using a Digitrax DCS 100 command station, DT402D Throttle and the Decoder Pro programming software.  My problem is that I can't get the loco to start at a very slow speed.  The throttle display indicates that the decoder is recognized as a 14 step decoder.  The Decoder Pro doesn't recognize the decoder and when I enter changes and write the changes it indicates an error programming the decoder.  So, two questions:
1) is it possible to reset the decoder to it's "as shipped" CV values?
2) can anyone suggest how to get it back to the 28/128 speed step mode?

Thanks.

N / Mr. Bach Man - HELP!
December 17, 2016, 01:58:46 PM
Dear Mr. Bach Man:

Help us Mr. Bach Man, you're our only hope.  We n scalers are in great need of a quality USRA type 4-6-2.  DCC equipped would be nice, but the other maker of this model doesn't measure up to the detail and quality of Bachmann locos.

N / DCC and light board on non-DCC 2-6-6-2
July 09, 2016, 12:34:54 AM
I have several 2-6-6-2s that need decoders.  I have no problem installing the decoder to make the loco run; however, I need advice on connecting the light board to the decoder to make it function properly.  I think this was addressed on this discussion board, but for the life of me can't find it now.  TCS has taken down their installation instructions.  Thanks for any help.

N / Brighter headlight on 2-8-4?
March 20, 2016, 04:56:20 PM
Does anyone know of a way to get the headlight brighter on the 2-8-4?  I've messed with some CV values but nothing helps.  Kind of my only complaint about some of the steam these days is that the headlight is so weak.  Thanks for helping.

N / Looking forward to a USRA 4-6-2 Pacific
March 08, 2016, 05:59:47 PM
With the tremendous steam that Bachmann has turned out lately including the K-4, one question begs to be asked.
Will we/can we expect to see a 4-6-2 come from Bachmann soon?  Say in a variety of roadnames? B & O for one, in green and gold trim? or maybe even a Streamlined?  Just wondering (begging really).

N / regaining dimming on EM-1 n scale
December 03, 2013, 10:43:13 PM
while programming the decoder in the n scale EM-1 I lost the dimming of the front and tender lights.  Anyone know how to get them back?  Also is there a way to keep the front headlight on, but dimmed when in reverse?

N / Baltimore & Ohio EM1 2-8-8-4
September 23, 2013, 06:23:55 PM
Just got mine in the mail today.  I ecstatic as I began to open the locomotive packaging and look through the parts sheet.  This is arguably the best N scale locomotive period that has been produced to date!  Bachmann, you have hit a grandslam!  The loco runs so smoothly and the detailing is just as good as my brass 2-6-6-6.  I will stop because I'm still drooling.  If I were just starting out in hobby and was thinking of steam this would be the one to buy.  Bachmann you have topped all competitors with this amazing model.

I have purchased a few N scale vandy tenders used with the Heavy Mountain I would like to use them with the ConCor 2-10-2.  I can figure out how to couple them but I need help with installing a decoder.  The tenders did not come with any information about the circuit board installed or how to install a decoder.  There is a series of 6 pins on the board that looks like a decoder might plug into that; there is also seven points along the side of the board numbered 8 -1 - 2- 4- 5- 6 - 7 that looks like a decoder could be soldered there.  Any information would be helpful.  Thanks.
