Dear All,
The road number on the PRR Geep will be 8805.
I don't know where the switcher number came from...
Have fun!

Great!  :)

Dear All,
Every number and paint scheme was taken from a prototype photo.
Have fun!

Thanks on the answer. Maybe this Pennsy Geep received that number in later years, replacing SW switcher road #.

As for B&O GP7, I would like it in blue-grey-striped early scheme, but they will probably come in all blue livery.

There is a PDF on index page with announcement for GP7 engines in fall 2009. PRR engine pictured looks very nice! :)

But, according to http://broadway.pennsyrr.com/Rail/Prr/Rosters/diesel.html number on PRR loco is not correct! #8542 was the EMD SW9 switcher! ???

On some other forums, users are stating that B&O ande Chessie engines also have incorrect numbers!

I hope this will be corrected on the production run, it would be unprofessional to make such a error, and would fuel "Bachmann is for kids" topics... :-\

Question: How come B&O and PRR Sharks models does not have numbers on numberboards?

Does the box contains decals, or they have to be bought extra? ???

My HO Spectrum Shay became much noisier on low speeds when I put Bachmann decoder in it.

On the other hand, when I installed TCS decoder in european Piko electric loco (this model can be compared to Bachmann non-Spectrum models motor-wise), low speed noise completelly vanished!

So, your answer may be to put quality, silent decoder in your Shark.

8) Shay sounds audio CD! That freaky I am not! :D Thanks anyway!

As for 0-6-0, I've run it with a 6 or 7 cars for a hour or so, and it is much better now. It still "waddles" a bit, but I can live with that! ;)

Thanks for the link, WB! Sounds very nice and interesting!

As I am from Croatia, Europe, unfortunatelly I cannot check in Cass or some similar "geared loco heaven" if it is close to real Shay! :D

Thanks on your posts, guys.

No, I am not trying to race my little loggers. But, I've read that prototype Heisler had higher max. speed than the Shay, and HO Heisler really has. I do not like to go to maximum speed with my models, watching them crawl is very nice! ;)

I wanted to point that both Shay and Heisler are very noisy locos compared to Spectrum rod models, for example. Probably high revolution gears and shafts cannot be silent. Somebody pointed that Shay is like a little sewing machine! :)

But, can somebody tell how the Shay sounds when equiped with sound decoder+speaker? How the real loco sound mixes with noise from the loco mechanism? ???

HO / Rivarossi Heisler & Spectrum 0-6-0T
February 12, 2008, 03:42:13 AM
Finally, my layout in progress took delivery of some new US steam power, one Rivarossi Heisler, and a Spectrum 0-6-0 tank switcher.  ;)

I am impressed with Rivarossi engine! Even though it "whines" when goes in higher speeds, I think this is normal, Shay is also noisy little loco! But details, and overall quality is IMO very, very good. I plan to put decoder in, probably no sound. But who knows?! ;D

Bachmann PRR switcher is also neat looking loco. It is much less noisy than Heisler, and behaves similar to Spec. GE 44-tonner, probably they have same el.motors?

When I put it in track, I noted that loco "wobbles" a bit to left and right while driving. After breaking in, I disassembled the wheels and checked it. Now it is much better, even though it still has some left-right movement while going. I know that prototype switchers without leading truck were limited to low speeds because of that, and it can be somewhat realistic, but I want to know if all Spectrum 0-6-0T's behaves like that?

Any comments? Thanks!

I run four of Bmann's Shays and one Climax.....HO scale.

The only other loco on my layout is a Mantua 2-6-6-2T.

Sid

Can you describe your Mantua logger in a few sentences? I am planning to buy it.
Thanks!

P.S. Of Bachmann engines, I have Shay, B&O 2-8-0 and PRR GE 44-tonner, all Spectrum. My saddletank PRR 0-6-0 is on the way! ;)

Prinz Eugen was a heavy cruiser.

Yes. Partner ship from "Bismarck"'s last voyage :-[ , "Admiral Hipper", was also heavy cruiser.

Thommo, thank you for your kind words!!

Usually the plugs are quite difficult to get out of their sockets.  This makes me wonder if yours are pushed in all the way.  When fully engaged, the tiny ridge at the rear of the plug is touching or almost touching the shell of the socket.  If you need a photo, let me know.

Hi Jim & Tim, all is OK! The plug was really not pushed all the way, I was little to carefull after seeing all that fragile details on the loco! ;D

Thanks on your help, my B&O Consolidation now doesn't blink and drives very well.

It appears to not be inserted all the way, as I can see the end of the plug.
It also seems to be slightly crooked.

They fit very tight but  you should be able to insert it further.

Make sure that the plug is oriented correctly, there is a small ridge
on each side of the plug. The ridge is not centered and will only go
in one way.  There is a corresponding slot in the sides of the socket.

When I come home I'll try to insert it further. Thanks!

Hmmm now you got me thinking... I didn't want to press the socket too hard.
If you can see something from this pic?

Sorry, do not have from better angle...
