Title: EZ Track
Post by: Balloon Guy on May 15, 2011, 09:58:50 AM
I have purchased alot of EZ track for my grand kid's layout. I have since purchased DCC trains. How do I convert the track for DCC operations? I have switches and crossovers.  Thank you. Balloonguy

first you need a dcc controller, such as the ez command or dynamis system. if you don't have a feeder track you will need one to power the track.

Assuming you have all your ez track set up and running on dc, Unplug your Dc controller and plug in the DCC controller to the track and start running, thats all there is to it.

To add to NarrowMinded's instructions:  If you have remote control turnouts powered by the accessory terminals of a dc power pack, leave them connected that way.  There are no accessory terminals on E-Z Command.

Thanks Jim,
I should have been more clear on just switching the track feed and leaving the other power supply for the accessories.

BG-

I may not be understanding your question but I will offer anyway that you don't need to "convert" your track for DCC. The track is the same for DC and DCC; the only thing you change is your power system.

Sorry for the dumb question but what is ez TRACK?  How do I know what I have?  Also I have about 7 different transformers but how do I know which ones to use.  Sorry to hijack the thread.

ez track is bachmann's version of track with roadbed. the roadbed is the plastic section inder the track which simulates the crushed rock roadbed of real railroad track. roadbed track is also made by atlas and lifelike.

also, any train transformer which puts out a variable DC voltage up to 12 v dc is suitable for use with HO and N scale trains.

Thanks Jward for the reply.

Kinda like saying you can use the same kind of copper wire for AC or DC current ... it doesn't take two different kinds of wire, one for each.

But there will be some sharper someplace who will try to sell you different wire for DCC to replace your DC wire. Or different track. Or special wood to build new benchwork because the old stuff was built for DC and not for DCC.

Think.

as the adage goes, there's a prototype for everything. Orthodox Jewish people have parallel kitchens so the same surfaces and cooking implements aren't used for both meat and dairy foods.

Jeff-

Whatever floats your boat. Oops! Wait. This is trains, isn't it. They don't float. Unless you put 'em in a boat.

Jeff-

Especially if you use the swimming pool for the ferry.

This reminds me of the story of my indoor fish pond.
First I built and outdoor railway.
Then I built a bridge.
The bridge looked funny sitting on the ground so I dug a "dry lake" beneath it.
Dry lake looked dumb so dug it deeper, put in a liner and filled it with water.
Wet lake bred mosquito larvae, million of them, so added fish.
Fish needed a winter home so built an indoor fish pond in our sun room.
Pond plants grow 12 months a year indoors, so have taken over sun room.
Fish outgrew outdoor pond so had to make it bigger.
Bridge no longer long enough so rerouted railway.
So now I have an outdoor pond, and indoor pond, some huge pond plants, and a bunch of fish to look after.  And none of them have anything to do with the railroad.  Maybe I should dig the outdoor pond even bigger and train the fish to pull a car ferry.  Naw, better not.  Donaldon would be telling me there was something fishy about the whole operation.

Jim,
I'm glad to see somebody ends up with "forced" hobbies besides me. My Sister-in-law bought my daughters a tiny water turtle and presented it in a one square foot tank with the little palm tree, the turtle got bigger so the tanks keep getting bigger, then came another "free" turtle to keep the other company...

What does all this have to do with my railroad hobby? the $200 dollar filter system to keep the tank from stinking came out of My K27 fund! :'(

But I love my kids and they love the turtles... if only I could convince them turtle soup is Delicious.
