I have switched from HO to Large Scale.  As a member of a group of G scale we usually run trains for a number of events, exception was 2020. Anyway, running Thomas is a big hit with the kids. Have converted Thomas to battery power and RC control. Also added sound and lights. Next project is Percy.   I would like to get a Toby for my collection but waiting for  Bachmann to offer  Henrietta .   like to run cars behind the engines that one would have normally seen in the episodes.  For Toby its Henrietta.

Considering Covid shut down last year I am glad Bachmann is still producing large scale, so as it maybe. Slow is certainly better that none at all.

As far as scale in relationship to the 4-6-0. I run both and there is not a problem. One has to kept in mind at the time the
4-6-0 was actually built in a number of physical sizes were built,  depending on the railroads that ordered them.    So 20.3 and 22.5 isn't a problem.  Having said that rolling stock is another issue. To me it seems Bachmann can't get scale right there. So for now I relay more on how the rolling stock looks to compare to locomotive. Flat cars, open gondolas seem to do alright. I have problems with box, passenger and caboose. To me the Bachmann caboose looks really bad, toy like.  I have been running the older Delton cars with some success to scale/looks.  Exploring scratch building the rolling stock. One big problem is size of wheels. The Bachmann are either to small (24.5) or to large (31.0). they need something about 26/27mm.

But I do like my Bachmann locomotives

??? I to have the Spectrum 2-6-0 Mogul. Great running locomotive. Have now i need parts. The trucks on the tender are breaking apart. Tried gluing but it will not hold. Just need a pair of new trucks, complete less wheels.

any thoughts on where I might be able to find them since Backmann doesn't even list them.

Thanks for any help. Right now the locomotive has been assigned to a shelf. Would like to get it back to running.

Thanks for the information.  At this point I really just want the trains to run with a little sound for the grandson. Going to leave the DCC system for my HO layout.

Large / Radio Control/Battery power
February 09, 2015, 11:29:04 AM
I am interested in converting my Large Scale Thomas locomotives to radio control/battery power.  Currently looking at CVP Airwire and Crest T.E. systems.  Also, what voltage to use  for battery?

Any thoughts, recommendations would be helpful.

On30 / Re: Future of ON30
August 16, 2012, 07:12:11 PM
Beware:  Not sure if this is the right spot but from my point of view Bachmann On30 does not look good. Bought a new Cliamax about a mont ago. When I got around to it tried to run it. It would run backwards great would only run about an inch or two forward before it would stop.

Sent it back to Bachmann, I have had good luck with their warranty work in the past and had quick turn around.  Well after a little more than 6 weeks I get a call from Bachmann. Apparantly they are unable to repair or do not have parts they were not clear on that point.

In any case they did not have any to send out a replacement either. Ended up having to accept a On30 ( I hope) Porter 0-4-2T as a replacement engine.

By the way no Shays either.  So they are batting  "O" on the On30 .

On30 / Re: Climax Problems

I bought one of the On30 Climax a few weeks ago. I just got around to opening the box and tried to run it.  The problem, it runs in reverse great, however forward is another issue.  It will run for about 3 or 4 inches then stops. The motor is still turning I can see the side rods going back a forth but it will not move.  I can not see a problem. Has anyone has had this type of problem with engine.

I have been running the HOrnby and Bachmann for awhile. Though the Hornby are slightly larger I have not found it to be a big problem.  The main reason for running HOrnby is that they offer engines that Bachmann does not.

Lady or Rosie would be good choices. However, my vote would be for Molly. :o

General Discussion / Glue
November 11, 2010, 11:34:18 AM
???  I have a number of bachmann trains (thomas). I am looking for a glue I can use(that will work) to glue parts back onto the bodies etc. I have tried CA, the glues sold for the plastic building parts, Tenra x-7. I can not find      anything sofar that will work.
