Title: Easiest way to remove body shell for Bachman GP38-2?
Post by: arcy on September 27, 2010, 03:30:36 PM
What  is the easiest method to remove the shell from a Bachman GP38-2 or a GP30 for installation of a sound decoder?

Thanks in advance.

Did you consult the product reference diagram? If so, and you still need help let me know.

On both it is best to remove the couplers first.
On the GP38 the fuel tank has to be pulled off. It has tabs that lock into the shell.
On the GP30 there are screws that hold the gas tank on. After you remove the tank you will see the screws holding the shell.
It would be nice if Bachmann would put this info on the parts sheet. This question is always being asked. A few lines as to where the screws go would help.

Bob's method is an excellent method, but not the easiest method.  The quickest and easiest method to remove the shell is to smash it off with a big hammer.  Not a good method if you want to reuse the shells.

Jim-

Not a problem, however, if you want to reuse the hammer.
