Title: Spectrum HO F40PH manual and lube help!
Post by: jollyroger on April 02, 2009, 08:24:52 PM
hi all, I just picked a very nice Amtrak F40PH...body, lights in great shape. It needs a good lubing....loco is very loud when it runs and not that fast. I took apart as much as I could and tried to lube the gears in the trucks, but I was afraid to go any further. I am sure the worm gears need lube, but how do I get there? Do I take off the side chassis? Is there any way I can get a PDF copy of the manual?

Thanks all in advance!

The basic disassembly and reassembly of the F40PH is similar to the H16-44 which is detailed at the link below.  Once the locomotive is apart, it is easy to lubricate the ends of the motor, the bearings for the worm gear shafts, and the worm gears themselves.  Obviously, you can ignore the parts about installing a decoder.
