N / Re: Doodlebug trailer w/sound
March 24, 2014, 07:49:07 AM
Somebody must've added that after the fact. The most recent production run (2011) did come with factory-installed DCC in the Doodlebug, just not sound. The trailer that comes with the set has electrical pickup for the interior lighting, so adding a sound decoder in there would be pretty simple.

N / Rock Island GP7?

The recent release of GP7's did not include the announced Rock Island version. Did that cancelled or is it just coming in a later shipment?

Thanks,

N / Re: N Scale S-4 - Speed Control?
August 20, 2013, 09:27:34 AM
Actually, I like the speed spectrum on mine (it being very realistic). I was just curious to know if it could be changed (IE, info for my website).

So, you think it's the gearing that's responsible for the low top-end? I haven't been able to determine if it's the gearing, the motor or the decoder (or all of the above).

Thanks,

N / Re: N scale S-4 Headlight Question DCC

Based on the decoder docs, it looks like the only light-related settings you can change are which function controls Rule 17 dimming (CV 51) and how dim they get when Rule 17 is invoked (CV 52). There doesn't appear to be any way to change the basic behavior of the lighting (IE, change it to have the "forward" light on and the "rear" light off, based on direction of travel).

N / N Scale S-4 - Speed Control?
August 20, 2013, 07:51:00 AM
Looking at the docs for the S-4 decoder, it appears that the only CV available for adjusting speed control is CV2 (vstart). Without having access to CV6 (vmid), CV5 (vmax) or any of the speed table CV's, is there any way to change the overall speed spectrum of the locomotive? For example, if I wanted a higher top-end speed or wanted to speed-match it with another loco?

Thanks,

N / Old Locomotive Packaging
May 12, 2007, 08:29:13 AM
OK, this is probably me finally going off the deep end, but I'm wondering about Bachmann's old locomotive packaging.

Mainly I'm interested in their line of cheapie "train set" locomotives ((IE, not Bachmann Plus and not Spectrum). As near as I can tell, there were four basic packages used from 1968 up until around 2001 (when everything was switched over to the fancy jewell cases with the blue paper inserts):

Can anybody help me to put approximate dates to these? I believe the "upright" one (top-most) was used for the first couple of years (1968-1970), and that the white cardboard box was the most recent (in use up until around 2001). Beyond that, I have no idea. Any help?

Thanks,
-Mark
