N / japanese shinkansen N models
July 04, 2010, 04:59:16 AM
greetings,

can anyone provide me shinkansen (bullet trains) models by Kato, Tomix and other train sets currently in use by japan and their lines? when it comes to N scale, will the tracks be used by other shinkansen models? because i'm planning to get 1 complete set of the shinkansen say the N700 with tracks and the others will be the 4 set loco with coaches without tracks.

will it also be applicable to the other electric locos used by japan in N scale? are the tracks of the shinkansen no different from the tracks of the electric locos in N scale?

thankyou

General Discussion / from circular to layout
May 27, 2010, 11:39:19 AM
greetings,

my bachmann superchief set have an original circular track with loco with dc motor only. i'm planning to build a layout with turnouts, and parallel tracks etc. will i need a digital control system DCC for this layout? a seller here in the philippines in ebay is selling a digital control system which can control speed, light, sound etc for $108. he is also selling a standard speed control the same set included with the train set when i bought it but unfortunately damaged by the flood. included with the standard speed control is a set of oval tracks, wall mount transformer and cord. can the turnout tracks be controlled manually or do i need the digital control DCC one even the loco has no digital or electronic component? your comments and suggestion please.

and lastly, can i use silicone gel as plastic lubricant? this silicone gel is commonly used here on tamiya 4 wheel drive with plastic gears.

thankyou

General Discussion / WALTHERS
May 23, 2010, 11:08:14 AM
greetings,

comments please:

first - a local seller here in the philippines is selling his LIFE LIKE TRAIN or WALTHERS. the two set will cost 7,000 philippine pesos or around $152 USD.

one set is the F7 superchief and the other is the GP 38 for the locos. have their own tracks, controls, no box and no manuals for both sets as the seller said theres no need for a manual since it is easy to operate.

the seller said the two sets can be interconnected and have overlap bridge. the tracks can be made oval or circular.

in general, what is your comment on these train sets for the price and performance? will it be a good buy? what sort of things do i have to look for or examine before closing the deal if ever?

second - i have a bachmann train set but unfortunately damaged by flood. if ever there's no other way to fix it, the tracks will be a waste. can it be fitted with the life like tracks to add it on? and if ever i can fix it will the bachmann loco run on LIFE LIKE tracks? can i connect the bachmann loco with life like rolling stocks or vv, in other words mix them up.

in the near future sir, can i get bachmann locos and rolling stocks and use them on life like brand tracks and controls?

third - we often visit hong kong. i'm planning to buy bachmann chinese model locos there. will it work on bachmann or life like brand tracks and will it run on these US controls (bachmann or walthers)? what sort of conversion kits will i buy?

hope didn't forgot anything.

thankyou

General Discussion / maintaining my trains
May 18, 2010, 11:16:05 AM
greetings,

i'm new to this hobby and it seems i'll be dealing with maintaining my trains. can anyone provide me with basic maintainance tips like basic tools and knowhow if i'll take them apart. the bachmann train that i have which was submerged in flood waters will be my first challenge if i want to fix it.

the train ho superchief that i'm planning to buy thru ebay was shelved by the seller for 2 years and when he tested it, the wheels wont turn and run but he can hear the engines. what can be done? should i push thru with the purchase? is it normal if ever for the gears to stuckup if not used for 2 years?

thankyou
