HO / Noisy motor-older HO B30-7 diesel
April 18, 2023, 01:31:11 PM
I have recently installed a Digitrax sound decoder in an older Bachmann Plus B30-7 diesel loco. The motor makes a clicking sound that almost covers the decoder sound. The sound reminds me of the old 'cards in the spokes' noisemaker we used to do to our bikes. Anyone have experience with this issue?
I am considering a new motor!
Thanks

Len, you're right on. Upon careful inspection of the motor and the trucks/wheels I've concluded that the right rail motor connection runs through the frame. So I will isolate the motor from the frame and connect new wire to track/wheel wiper (right side) and sever the "D" or loop connecting the right wiper to the frame. That ought to clear the pathway for the decoder to work as well as isolating the motor/frame/wheel connection!
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the responses. Here's the problem...rather than 2 wires coming from each truck there's only one...normally one wire would be the fireman's side/the other the engr's..simple..but on this loco its not so.

Does anyone out there have a detailed wiring diagram for this 'old' loco? I have the exploded diagram that came in the box; the wiring is difficult to interpret from the diagram. I'm installing a decoder. It appears to me that the positive side of the motor is the top terminal. The connections on the trucks have me stumped....what is the purpose of the D-loop wire on the outside of each truck?.....I'm trying to differentiate between the left and right rail connection on the trucks... one loco truck has a red lead/the other a black lead. Wires to the trucks go to both sides of the trucks, meaning wipers electrify all four wheels on each truck. Any ideas about which truck should be wired(for the decoder)to left rail connection and which for the right?
Any help would be appreciated!

HO / SP Daylight 4449 4-8-4 GS 4 with DCC sound
July 09, 2021, 07:15:47 PM
I just purchased a lightly-used 4-8-4 SP Daylight. I've run it around my 22" curves and it negotiates them OK. However I notice that the front and rear trucks (front and rear of the big drivers) are extremely loose and wander a bit side to side...is this normal? Should there be a 'keeper spring' to keep them steady and in firm contact with the rails?

HO / HO Speeder #16946 with crane and work cart

Just got this model. Put it on my DCC track with Digitrax DCS 51 throttle....assigned loco #3 because its DC. It just sits there and hums. No movement fwd or reverse. I think I've done everything right but this little speeder is a 'no go' right now. Any ideas?

I see that Bachmann offers a replacement tender (model # 511x-2042). Does this part include the motor?

Can anyone tell me if this model (#81901) is DCC-ready? I'm getting mixed info. What is the best sound/speed decoder to install?

HO / 70 ton 3 truck Climax Loco (DCC) #82902
December 08, 2016, 02:43:27 PM
I just bought a new to me Climax three truck loco with DCC (no sound) #82902.....the piston runs fine but the drivelines won't turn in either the forward or reverse mode. I can get a little movement in reverse but only for a nano-second. Any ideas what could be wrong?
