Sheldon,
Thanks for the input. I will share it with the BOSS. I am sure she will understand now why,,,,,, I must order them in pairs.
Sounds like you have a nice layout. I am just getting back into the Hobby after a 30 year break. Most of my older stuff is Diesels and back then I just bought what I liked without any thought of how it went together. This time around I am trying to keep it all C & O Steam from the mid to late 40's and early 50's so some of my Diesels with fit in with this era.
I would love to see some pictures of you layout if they are available.
Thanks again for you help and have a great day.

Thanks. I was able to view them from that link. I have noticed several people that have posted pictures. Is there a way to view them from this board?

Does anyone own a Bachmann Spectrum series 2-6-6-2? I am looking at purchasing one and would like to know more about the Tsunami sound technology. The info says it operates on both DC & DCC. My layout is DCC powered and I was wondering if it would be good investment.
Thanks,

Gene,

The AHM pulls fine when it runs. It will run a couple laps and then just quit. Some times it runs fine and others it won't run at all.

Any idea what type of motor I should be looking for?

Mine is the same as Gene's.

I would like to add an H-8 with sound to my layout.

Get the Thurmond terminal from COHS that I have on order and get it put together. That will probably take at least a year.

General Discussion / Re: Tortoise switch machines wiring?

Robin,
Thanks for the response.

I believe I have a couple bad switches. Two out of the seven I installed aren't working.  I finally moved the wire from one machine to one of the working ones and it worked fine. Guess I will need to make another trip to the LHS for more switches.

Do you know of a way to check out a DPDT switch before it's installed?

General Discussion / Tortoise switch machines wiring?

Can someone help with the wiring of Tortoise switch machines. I am using Figure #2 on the directions with a single DC power supply. Several of them work fine but some of them will only work once and then nothing. I have checked for binding but that doesn't seem to be a problem. I am using DPDT switches and also DPDT center off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like Walthers & Backmann are the way to go.....I had a bad experience with Rivarossi on getting my Allegheny repaired. They only have a part time service person and he only works when he wants to. I wish Bachmann woud make a 2-6-6-6 with sound. I would be on the list.

Does any one have any experience with an older Berkshire? I have an AHM from Rivarossi that I purchased in the late 70's. It has never ran very well and has been in storage for a number of years (?????). I am just now getting back into the hobby and  like to start using it. I have cleaned and oiled everything but it still doesn't run very well. Has anyone every replaced the motor and had any success?

Has anyone added sound to the new Bachmann 2-8-4. I received mine last Tuesday and was expecting sound but what the heck at that price you can't go wrong. The lady's at COHS weren't to sure what they were selling.

I am looking at the Tsumani package although it's a little expensive when you add a speaker and Power Pax that Tony's Trains says you must have to program the engine.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Since I am a new guy to this board I hope I don't get drug through the mud like some of the other new people!
