General Discussion / Spectrum 4-6-0's
May 22, 2007, 09:59:38 PM
There are only a couple of the 4-6-0's in the Spectrum line shown in the on line catalogue, are these being phased out for now?

Would like to obtain a set of the Rapido units, however I need to justify $12 per car for the Athearn RTR against the $60.00 per car for the Rapido.

The Athearn CNR coaches I have are the RTR CN Green old time coaches with the 6 wheels trucks and both curved and clerstory roofs and they match the CNR F7 Genesis units for colour.

Know the CNR F7's are freight engines but hey its my layout. I alternate with the Bachman CN 2-10-2, perhaps one day I will locate a CN Northern or F7P, but until then I am content.

Also have Stewart CN F7's, close match in colour as well.

John, thanks for that information. I sent an e-mail to the site. As a kid I lived in Field BC, the CPR divisional point.

The RTR section of Athearn Trains shows their CN coaches.  The description is standard but several are the old clerestory roof heavyweights.

Forgot to mention the obvious, the units are presently discontinued, but many of these units are still in hobby shops and of course e-bay at times.
I am also collecting these same CN units when I run across them.

John, that is a great link you provided. Spend most of the morning on line. Great photos. By the way ran across one of the CNR units which I had never seen before as well

HO / Canadian Steam - CPR Decopod

Just came across this CPR engine, quite a small engine in comparison to the later 2-10-2's and the 2-10-4 Selkirks.

In addition the site contains most of the old CPR steam engines and even the early gas rail cars and the early diesels.

Thanks for the info, when searching the web for the engine I was surprised at how much detail the new "old" Mantua has. Not quite up to the standard of the brass models but at 20% of their price a great start. I new about the tank versions but was unaware of the tender version. Can hardly wait now for the item to arrive. Darn, checked quit a few of the dealers but missed the Trainworld site, oh well it was only a few dollars more. Darn.

This post got me curious as to the new "classic" 2-6-6-2 Mantua models, I found a few on the web and ended up buying the GN green version.

Who has one of the new units and how do they run?

Nevermind. I emailed them, and they don't have any that come DCC ready.

So unfortunatly, Trainworld doesn't have any of the good ones.

I am looking at one of the Heisler by Rivarossi units and it is DCC ready (add the decoder), if the units are not DCC ready they must be very old stock - I would check again.

Kudo's to the Service Department.

I would like to thank Bridget at the Service Department for helping me out. I mailed the Service Dept that I was missing the rear coupler plate on a F7B unit.

I forgot to include both the parts number and the model number of the unit, but she sent me a message indicating that the part was on its way. She obviously had to look up the parts number herself to identify the part.
