General Discussion / scam
May 18, 2011, 11:23:22 PM
I have received emails that look like you bank, credit card company or paypal.  Today I got a new kind.  It was an email from a family member.  He was over seas and needed money for an operation of another family member.  All I can say is DON'T FALL FOR THESE SCAMS.  They look so real.

For some reason I click to change the message board I keep going to the  F.A.Q. section.  The only way I have been able to out of it is to logoff and then log back on.  Has anyone else had this problem?

1906 San Francisco Street Car film - AMAZING

This film was "lost" for many years. It was the first 35mm film ever.
It was taken by camera mounted on the front of a cable car.

The amount of auto-mobiles <WBR>is staggering for 1906. Absolutely amazing
The clock tower at the end of Market Street at the Embarcadero
wharf is still there. (I'm also wondering ... how many "street cleaning"

people were employed to pick up after the horses? Talk about going green!)

Great historical film worth watching.

This film, originally thought to be from 1905 until David Kiehn with
the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum figured out exactly
when it was shot. From New York trade papers announcing the film
showing to the wet streets from recent heavy rainfall & shadows
indicating time of year & actual weather and conditions on historical
record, even when the cars were registered (he even knows who
owned them and when the plates were issued!).. It was filmed only
four days before the quake and shipped by train to NY for processing.
Amazing but true!

I found this on another board. I thought it is interesting....trackage with trolleys in a modern Japanese city. Note the turning of the engine and near the end, a pantograph on the roof of one of the coaches (maybe for traffic signal actuation).

General Discussion / Fort Worth Tx.
March 03, 2010, 08:24:54 PM
Any one live in Fort Worth.  I am seeking information.  I Want to take the train from OK City get to F W and eat.  I would have a few hours to kill before getting back on the train to Ok City.  They have a free bus in down town, but does it go to the station?  What is the best way to kill a few hours in the afternoon?

General Discussion / 4 by 8
February 22, 2010, 05:35:22 PM
I have only seen a few 4 by 8 HO layouts that I liked.  I got a copy of 8 Great Track Plans for small spaces by Model Railroader magazine.  They sent this because I renewed my subscription.  Anyway I am sure that they are reprints of what has been in M.R.  The Loleta & Mad River.  The plans are for a point to point railroad. I would make a few changes. One major change would be to run across the river so you could have continuous running.

I found out some information about that b-unit that supplied the power for the rotary plow.  It is a f7b and it was an ex SP&S unit.

General Discussion / ebay
November 29, 2009, 05:31:47 PM
I sometimes wonder what people are thinking when it comes to ebay.  They had two different Rivarossi HO Indiana Harbor 0-8-0s One starting out at $7.99 with no bids, the other had 6 bids at $8.00.  But here is what gets me.  I H 0-8-0 tender 1 bid for $19.99.  Then there is a Boiler with 8 bids going for $11.00.  I looks like it is better to sell the parts rather than the whole locomotive.

This video was recorded in 1995 in Albanian lignite (brown coal) mine. This mine is located in the national park called Bredhi Drenovë. As you can see, these coal-miners do not care about labour protection.

Santa Fe 3415 back in steam after 54 years. Here are a few shots.

If all goes as planned, the 3415 will only be steamed up on holiday weekends
the rest of this year...4th of July and Labor Day.
