Hi Mr B,

I enjoyed the chance to spend some time with you at the show this weekend, and thanks for including my detailed flat in your display. Your line of 1:20.3 cars are a great start for kitbashing.

I enjoyed this show more than many others, and there were some great prices, including on your cars. I really did not need another hopper! Now I have another car to work over.

Regards,

Larry

Large / ECLSTS this weekend

Hi Mr. B,

Will you be at the ECLSTS at York this Fri/Sat?

The Belden Falls Shay will be pulling a train of modified Bachmann 1:20.3 cars over on the live steaming tracks. I can't just leave them alone, the way they come out of the box, and another side-dump gon just joined the fleet.

Hope to get the chance to say hello again,

Larry

Sam, did you get my email?

Sam, the book is not worth buying just for the photo. Also, the specification sheets do not show specifics of this particular model locomotive.

I can send you an enlargement of the photo, but it will not tell you much as it is very dark.

On page 15 of Critters II--

Carmen Centrale, Vega Alta, Diesel Mechanical Locomotive, 10 tons, 50 cm (typo?) gauge, Cummins H.B. 600 engine, type 0-4-0, #3 (?).

Except for not having a headlight, but  having a couple of additional vertical grabirons on the radiator, it looks to be the Bachmann version.

I got my set of the Critters books from Ron's Books.

On30 / Re: Beware That New Krylon Spray Paint
February 12, 2009, 01:54:50 PM
Jestor--Dullcote is OK for indoor models, but will not hold up in repeated outdoor exposure, and getting caught in a thunderstorm ruined it on some of my gauge 1 equipment . That equipment was lightly rubbed down and recoated with Krylon 1131 matte clear, which is holding up fine, including being out in the rain.

Ole--have you heard back from Krylon yet? My response from them indicated the new product is more sensitive to conditions and drying time. But, your example of identical pieces seems to question that.

Anyone interested in the full response I received can go to My Large Scale and my thread on the Model Making forum. You do not have to be a member to read the forums.

Thanks for the heads up. I had thought just the packaging was new, but now see the "new" stock numbers start with a 5 before the four-digit color code.

The Krylon matte I have been using with no problems so far is #1311 which is said to be non-yellowing.

Large / Paintmatch for gon

Hi Mr B,

Is there a readily available paint match for the 1:20.3 #88299
BROWN unlettered side-door gon?

Thanks,

I have used Neolube for 40 years for smokeboxes, wheels and rods, and now use it on my 1:20 live steam. If it wears off, just reapply. If you ever want to remove it, just wash off with a bit of alcohol.

You can get it from MicroMark.

Large / 1:20 crane?

Mr. B, any chance of posting some photos of the 1:20 crane apparently on display in that photo of you at a recent show?

General Discussion / Re: Georgetown Loop

Bob, it wasn't windy the day we were there. After the drive up from Durango in a heavy rainstorm, nothing on the Georgetown Loop fazed me. Tame by comparison.

I rode the line last July and really enjoyed it. A true model railroad, scaled up to 12" to 1'.

A couple of additional comments to the excellent advice given above--
Since I have had to special-order the Woodland Scenic dry transfers I want from the LHS, and they have occasionally arrived "stale" from his distributor, I started ordering them direct from WS via their website. Can't get them any fresher than that.
I use Floquil (brush) and Krylon (spray), with the UV stabilized matt Krylon as final topcoat. One caution with dry transfers and Krylon--let them dry 24 hours before spraying the topcoat. Spraying them immediately after application can cause bleeding on vertical surfaces if the spray is applied a bit too heavy.

Final note--my fingers no longer work  well enough to do small dry transfer work and still consider it fun, so I recently switched to Del Tapporo's vinyl transfers, where entire texts go on as a unit.  I find them easier to apply and Del is great to do business with.

Large / Color match
April 01, 2008, 01:25:36 PM
Hi Mr. B, it was good talking with you again at the York show. I have got to stop buying your 1.20 stuff--running out of track space at home.

Anyway, could you suggest a paint match for that brown, unlettered, 1.20 side-dump gon that I just had to buy. (Plus two more hoppers).

Regards,

Larry
