ooops - Forgot:

"I think that the Backwoods kit does'nt look right. I say this because it is an O scale cab on a HO engine, makes everything else look small. But that's just me, AND it is a option to get a mallet. (AZ2Rail)"

What happens with the Backwoods kit is that you do extensive surgery on the HO boiler, and the boiler is raised up almost a quarter inch in the front.
All the parts for the conversion are brass, and this adds considerable weight to the unit..
New larger domes and S scale air pumps are added. The only parts I re-used were the cooling tanks on top, and the generator.
Also the new pilot assembly is quite a bit larger.

Thanks for letting me butt in....Geezer

HO / Bachmann 44 Tonner
November 03, 2008, 12:51:27 PM
I am bashing a 44 tonner into a critter of sorts - What I would like to know, is where can I get a replacement DCC board or is there a prescribed decoder available. I am aware that a regular decoder could be wired in.

Just curious - Geezer   ???

I sincerely thank all you gentlemen for the input. I will try again and see if I can get through. I really dont need the whole loco, just the drive train parts (drive shafts & universal joints). Maybe I can modify some parts from other locos. I will give Ray (favoritespot) a call this morning also, maybe he can get the parts for me. Anyway, thanks again, and I will keep you posted.  Geezer

General Discussion / Contacting Bachmann
April 08, 2008, 02:33:03 PM
What does it take to reach Bachmann for support and/or parts? Is it possible to talk to a real person or receive a answer to an email submited from the customer service department on t his site?

Realizing that my unit is no longer in production and that there is no warranty, I still feel that there should be some sort of reply. All I need is some drive train parts.

The unit is the HO Spectrum 50 ton climax - I do not wish to return to GreedBay and flop out another $190. Can someone help?

On30 / Re: Parts ordering
February 22, 2008, 01:24:48 PM
Jim - I have had so much response to this question, I got totally lost.
???
So, I have decided just to leave it as is, and  go with the LED's as is.

My main reason was that (on my railroad) I figured that the yellow glow from the bulbs would be better suited to the engine that I am working on.

Also, I wanted to change the lights to the old fashioned "Box" type rather than the "round" electric light.

I will post some pictures as soon as I get it together. Thanks again for all the help.

On30 / Parts ordering
February 21, 2008, 11:17:15 AM
Hello -
Working on a conversion project, and need to know a couple things.
1: The chassis I am  using is DCC equipped and has factory installed
    LED's.
Can I replace the LED's with 12 - 16v GOW bulbs without a meltdown
of the DCC board?

2: Assuming that the LED's are polarized (+ -)(- +) - is there a certain kind that I have to order?

Thanks in advance,
Geezer

General Discussion / Measurements

Can someone give me ageneral idea how wide the average
On30 engine cabs are? I don't have access to my trains except for weekends, and need this info in order to decide about a
Diamond Scale 130 foot HO Gauge turntable.

The distance between the uprights on this model is about 2.250 inches,
but if I have to, I can rig for a single upright.....Right?   ;D

Thanks in advance,

Geezer
