I started with a good size layout and then it went to weeds. I had a friend rebuild it larger  and then because of illness I let it go for a year. I will soon have my friend rebuild it and enjoy it. I made many mistakes over the years. I laid the layout on treated lumber which twisted beyond believe. I've had weeds grow up and down through weed fabric.
My biggest problem is I had to pile gravel to high to make the track work with a bridge.  I may have to redo the track to make it all work.  Don't worry about size just get track down and have fun.

Kevin, I was thinking that Bachmann Aristo and USA had set a standard with NMRA.
I wanted to get started getting ready for summer and my layout needs a lot of work.

See you at York,MAYBE

I read that new couplers are coming out that work with other couplers. I see that Kadee has an E coupler, is that it.

I'd buy them, I'm sure Bachmann would do a better job than some of the others

It's been awhile, but I read years ago the 18 was the limit.  I'm rebuilding a layout and I'd like to be sure about the voltage if anyone knows better.

I'm rebuilding a large layout, I have two extra men helping me. I just came in from checking the tunnel with the new Bachmann caboose. The tunnel roof had to be raised a little.  I have 3 K-27, the finest engine I've yet to own. The layout went unused for many years and we're pretty much starting over.

I guess, I'll make due with K-27's.
I just returned from a long vacation and my laout is three foot high with weeds. We're starting tomorrow and hope to have it running in a few day. I had 3 K-27's and haven't seen one run yet.
Thanks guys

Wonder why they made that engine when they could have modeled an engine from the Little River Lumber Co., or the standard guage at Flagstaff.
"engine Arizona has links to more of that type engine. I've looked at all I could find.
I was interested in the LGB engine Unitah, but luck into a Sumpter Valley.
That's Guys

Is it possible to run the 2-6-6-2 without the water tanks, is it heavy enough?

Joe, you just made my day.  We just return from vacation, we saw the Dallas and St Louis Big Boys and rode the Durango and Silverton. We're going soon to PA to look at trains and the Baltimore B&O Museum.
My layout has been over taken with weeds I should have it running by next week about 1500 ft.
Thanks again

Maybe this is silly to ask, but are you sure the switch is on?  I've had one several years, but it's still in the box.

A few weeks ago I was headed to the Grand Canyon, when I caught a glance of an engine.
I think I was in Flagstaff. I had planed on taking picture on my return, but I didn't see it.
Could I have seen a 2-6-6-2. It was a very quick look, but Sumpter Valley came to mind.
We did get to Durango, a thrill of a life time
