Hey I just finished trying something that worked better then any smoke unit I have, I stopped at the ice house that sells  dry ice I removed my smoke stack and sealed the  bottom, I then broke little chunks of dry ice and dropped them in the top A lite "Smoke" started coming out it wafted down around the stack looked neat  then I added a few drops of water and then the "SMOKE" really started better then any smoke unit, the real payoff comes when you start the loco in motion you get the smoke effect without the lingering bad crap in the air and there is NO mess and it lasted for about 10 minutes Far longer then most smoke units that would fit in the space  available. note it does not leave a trail of smoke just the appearance of smoke leaving the stack.

General Discussion / Re: When is a lot too much?

I have his problem also, mine is mostly with detail parts though, I buy with the intention of making a modification or building something unique but then never get around to it because something always seems to need to be done on another project first, I also suffer from the "as soon as I get rid of it I need it" syndrome. so to weed out unneeded items I set them in my 6-month box... this is a box in a closet that is away from my hobby area if I don't use the item within six months I sell give or toss it out. this system has worked very well  for regulating my pack-rat tendencies and has cleared up a lot o space.

Try looking for a smoke tube style unit for a chimney or smoke stack on a building, but be aware they don't hold enough oil to last very long, and I am with the Bachmann the mess really is not worth it, also there is some health issues with the smoke that are very real but not widely discussed,

Just  a note for using a Dremel although I know Dremel used to make a treadle pedal I use one from a sewing machine to very the speed on my plug in tools, just set the speed on the dremel to the max rpm you want to use then vary it from zero to what ever rpm with the pedal.
