I finally got it to work. I was doing one thing wrong. You have to take the locomotive off the track to reassign the loco a new address as it had somehow lost the address 3 from the factory. Thanks for steering me in that direction. It was in the manual but hard to find. I have highlighted that paragraph. The wheels were also still dirty and that added to the issue.

Bachmann EMD FT locomotive (Santa Fe)

Yes, it is a Bachmann DCC locomotive and came with the controller. It worked when we first got it but is not working now. Since I cannot get the train to move, I am not sure I have programmed it to 1 or 3. Was just trying to move it to another programmed key to see if I could get it going. IT is almost like the decoder has lost it way and it does not know what to do.

I have cleaned the tracks, put a little oil on the wheels and cleaned them as much as possible, tested track (it has 12+ VAC, all 4 sets of wheels have resistance but the train will not start. It acts like it is getting one second of voltage but goes no where. I have reporgrammed the function key from 3 to 1 and still nothing. I reset it by pressing 3 and the stop button and then 1 and then the stop button. Is there a reset button that I am not aware of one the train or on the control? I am willing to send it in for repair but not sure if the locomotive needs to be repaired or the controller? Any suggestions are appreciated. I also have no lights coming on the locomotive when I press F10. Also, I do not have another locomotive to test with but guess I could purcahse another one if that is the only way to test??? Thanks

It sounds like I need to do a little house cleaning. Sorry to ask but the lube you are talking about can be found at a hobby shop? is it a special lube just for trains and tracks. I promised to get smarter as we grow into this. I have no doubt that the train and track are dirty as I have not cleaned them any more than with a vacuum. We went from a track around the Christmas tree with toy train to Bachman. Thanks again

Track seems to have a problem as the light on the train will come on for a few seconds but the train will not start. Is this a power problem on the track? Do I need to somehow add more power to the track in various locations? If so, what is the easiest way to add power? I am a beginner so please keep it simple. I gave this to my grandson and it worked for about 6 months but for some reason not allow the train to run. The train was running slow on various parts of the track before it totally stopped running. I have checked all the connections and cannot see anything wrong but any suggestion is welcome. Thanks

Thanks for be honest. I am assuming that the switches with the transformers need their own separate power supply and do no run off the track power and the DCC turnouts run off the track power or do both have to have a separate power supply? Yes, they are very expensive and I stepped back when I saw the price as I would need four of these to do what I wanted to do with the second track by converting back to a single track at the corners of the room and then splitting out at the straing track.

A general question about turnouts and crossovers...some describe themselves as remote (I am assuming remote controlled) and some are not. Are these controlled by the DCC and programmed from there? I have one very long track that goes around the top of the room (10 x 12) and plan on adding a second track. I know that I will have to run power back to the DCC every 10 to 20 feet or so but just wonder what else I may need for a dual track. I am choose to run them side by side with a crossover every now and then. I am using EZ track and wish to continue.

Sorry to be so very long in answering the question of why I need such a long cord. I have the track above the doors of the room running all around the room and the cord is not long enough for my grandson to run it from a table. It hangs from the wall and he cannot get to it easily. I will look at the wireless control but hated to put a lot more money into a control right now as I have to put another track down so he can run another train around the room.  We are learning as we go here.

Does Bachman sell a longer modular plug-in cable that goes from the EZ commander to the track or do you have to cut the cable and make up your own cable? I would love to purchase this instead of splicing. I need at least a 10 foot cord but 15 foot would be even better. Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for the feedback. I was told off line by someone that has done this before that what I needed is an Atlas-Code 100-Terminal Joiner-HO and like THB-Dave mentioned...get some 18 gage wire if I need a longer connection than 10'...in my case I will. Great responses...thanks again.

Thanks for the response. I apologize for being such a novice but would you share any parts numbers or send me to some reading material that will show how the power feeders can be hooked up. I am sure we will need to purchase the 5 Amp booster at some point but I am just getting this up and running above the door frames first. We will get fancy later on as we become more educated. Much appreciated.

I want to place the above set, with additional EZ track not in the kit, around a room that is 10' X 12'. I understand from reading on the website one can purchase the EZ track straight pieces in a bulk package. Will I need an additional voltage booster. I also want to purchase a truss bridge and have been looking at the Atlas Code 100 truss bridge. Any suggestions would be welcome as I am a novice grandmother/want-a-be carpenter who plans to put this all together around the perimeter of my 6 year old grandson's bedroom. I live in the US just incase you need to know this for the power issue if I indeed have the issue? I hope this message board is the place to post this.
