N / Re: Doodlebug Trailer Coach

I agree... not having these cars available separately and in a wide range of roadnames/roadnumbers is missing a good opportunity to amortize the tooling.   I would add that new inserts for a combine and full baggage would not be out of order either, as the four wheel trucks set the cars apart from anything else on the market.

One problem that Bachmann has to address now that they are making N Scale cars that are out of the trainset market is getting the new product into retail stores.   I don't know if it is due to Bachmann's mentality, the attitude of the wholesalers, lack of knowledge on the part of retailers, but Bachmann individual freight and passenger cars are not widely seen in online or brick and mortar shops, even those that carry the trainsets and a good range of locomotives and EZ Track.

I hope that Bachmann's sales department (and for that matter their production people) realizes they have a different product line now that needs to be promoted differently.   I am not sure this is so because the higher quality HO rolling stock hasn't made as much an impact in retail shops so far.

N / Re: Kader Battery-Operated Train Set?
June 29, 2010, 01:13:59 PM
AFAIK the 0-4-0 battery set was offered in Japan by Mico-Ace.   The 0-4-0 (C16a) was shown at the MRIA Trade Show but never released in the US.  It was the same prototype as the Atlas / Rivarossi version.  It had the original Docksider mechanism with the early plastic valve gear.   Maybe it was a gentlemen's agreement that it wasn't released as Atlas did not release the 0-4-0T (C16) that Rivarossi tooled so neither line duplicated the other.   The PRR A4 0-4-0 used the tender intended for the C16a.
I've seen photos of the set with regular track and conventionally decorated cars; perhaps the set mentioned was a "girls' train"?

David-
Funny to run into you here!!!
The AME7 laid an egg for Atlas in both HO and O.... so I would not promote it as a project in N Scale.....  I don't see any big factor that would make it a good seller in N when it has failed in two other scales.    There are better projects that would be surefire winners... like the K4.

N / Re: N scale single dome tank car
March 23, 2009, 12:02:12 PM
Bachmann does not make a "Single Dome Tank Car".
The car they do make is a 40 FT Chemical Tank Car.   Chemical Tank Cars do not have "domes" but have pressure relief valves and, most often, railed platforms for access to the loading/unloading valves topside.
Unfortunately, many times the catalog folks use HO illustrations for the N Scale cars.
Bachmann has a nice range of tooling for their N Scale Freight Cars and over the years it has been severely underutilized.   With a little touching up (better brakewheels, running boards, new correct wheelbase and wheel diameter AAR trucks, thinner stirrups / ladders, etc..)  AND more than one paint job/roadname/roadnumber per decade they could be sold in the non-premium (Atlas "Trainman") category.
And, according to Bachmann's own R&D guy, there is tooling that has never been run in the N Scale freight car line.  It would  be nice if the CB&Q NE12 "Streamlined Cupola" caboose was one of them!!!
How about getting some mileage out of these cars????
