General Discussion / Re: Ban on Cell Phones
May 30, 2009, 12:19:34 AM
This is my last post on this, not really railroad any longer, i'm curious about the change in the laws. as for a warrant thats thats a tricky one I am not an investigator and have no need to repeat "relay" or use the info so the need for a warrant seems out of place for general freq scanning. but as far as warrants go Please google "The Patriot act"

This has been fun But back to trians now.

I love this thread, I made my wife read it so she understands I am not a nut and why I stop and pick up every discarded boom box, vcr and dvd player and then spend an hour disassembling these things, they have a great amount of tiny nuts bolts screws pulleys belts arms sprockets springs and motors which I use to animate stuff and model.

I would do the recommended repair with the longer screw and install the new part and be done with it, bad replacement or not it should be a good strong retrofit fix.

Just my 2 cents

With all this scale and track talk I'll say it again, when is Bachmann going to make some spectrum 1:20.3 passenger cars
These I know will sell because everyone I talk to about it would like to have them. I don't need a new Steamer I need the cars to match.

There are exceptions that can be worked out with the FCC. and I believe it is legal to listen to any cell phone call. I believe the law allows you to listen but thats it and  that you can not relay what you hear to anyone or use the info in anyway. but then I have been out of the RF field for a number of years and things could have changed.

On the more serious side here for a little money, a low power cell freq jammer could be installed in the cab. but it gripes me that the actions of the few affect the rights of many, lets just enforce zero tolerance. banning cell phones wont do anything because the people who ignore the rules IGNORE the rules and will sneak one on to use, they will just break two rules instead of one. we all know one or two of these people, the rules don't apply to them.

Jeff
P'S. There are two types of people in the world those who put the shopping cart in the cart rack and those who don't that little thing is a "tell" about your true character.

it appears from the safety record of your engineer, it is not the cell phone that is the problem... ;D

Large / Re: Large Scale wheels for Big Hauler
May 25, 2009, 09:01:34 PM
Yeah I meant bobber Heh HEh...  the smaller wheels do go in smaller trucks as mentioned, I personally have not had problems with tracking or derails but i do notice the wheels do not go over the frogs as smoothly which appears to be from a slightly smaller flange on the smaller wheels, my layout is logging and mining so I stay at lower scale speeds

Some of the 1:20.3 20' gondolas listed in the big hauler catgory use the smaller wheels.you can tell by the trucks which one they are. there may be others I only have the 20 footers kitbashed a boober caboose using the small trucks and it turned out nice.

Are all the spectrums made and packed in china? If this is so I would believe that the problem mostly is when they are being packed, not in shipment these poor people usually get paid piece work and are forced to pay for things they damaged, so mums the word if something pops off during packaging.

First time offense?... I think not, only a brazen criminal would have the guts to pull off something like that. more like the first time caught.

May 24, 2009, 02:34:48 AM
Yikes, scale time? fast time? so if I understand this correctly within a switching yard it would not apply, because most likely your entire yard would be to scale in size, so if your running at scale speed time takes care of itself.  but on the main line time jumps ahead because station "A" is not 60 Scale miles from station "B" so if I am running at 60 scale miles per hour and my stations are really only 5 scale miles apart my trains arrive in 5 minutes but the clock needs simulates an hour... WOW That just took all the fun out of running my trains... and brings a whole new meaning to the term obsessive compulsive behavior. If jeff hurls his loco out the window at 50 mph and hits a truck heading the other direction at 25mph how long does it take a grass hopper with a wooden leg to kick all the seeds out of a dill pickle?

Jeff
just turn the throttle up as high as it will go and watch the kids smile.
