Thomas & Friends / N Scale Thomas
February 09, 2009, 11:21:49 AM
Just wondering...

Now that Marklin has declared bankruptcy, does this mean Tomix will be going down as well?

Why I ask is I have been looking for an N Scale Thomas set.

Wondering if Tomix does go down if Bachmann will pick up the licencing for an N Scale Thomas line?

Put me down for N Scale steam DCC equipped.

Would love it if Bachmann updated their 4-4-0s with DCC.
Decoders are much smaller now, and motors are better.

I would love to see the old tymers redone in Spectrum.

Also add the promised 4-6-0 to the list.

Heck, if Atlas can do a superb job with their little 2-6-0 Mogul, then The Bach Mann should be able to handle a 4-4-0 or 2-6-0.  ;D

My only question would be...

How did Atlas do it in their 2-6-0 Mogul. I have one of those, the local club has one and two N scale buddies have each got one. These are the shrpest looking, best running small steamers I have seen. My buddy hooked his up to six 60' passenger cars and it pulled them up a % grade and looked great doing it  :D

General Discussion / Re: 1800s Rolling Stock?
January 29, 2009, 07:24:34 AM
I too am after 1880s rolling stock and steamers, my scale of choice is N.

I don't know about customer base... everytime I ask about a product I get told they are out of stock by the manufacturer.. unless they only make a couple, they seem to sell.

Right now, only Athearn and Bachmann make the RTR rolling stock, and Bachmann does not sell theirs separate, only in train sets.

N Scale Supply makes flat, box and stock cars in kits that look great.

Motive power is where we are let down. The Bachmann 4-4-0 line is nice to look at, but reliability is an issue. I have 4 here and 3 sit idle becuase they don't run...

Only the little Atlas 2-6-0 Mogul runs like a dream. It is on my list to add an NCE decoder and make it DCC.

I would love to see Bachmann upgrade their 4-4-0s to Spectrum quality and make them DCC ready/equipped.

N / Re: Your Layouts

Mine is based on the Credit Valley Railway, a shortline that ran from Toronto to St. thomas and north to Orangeville and Elora, back in 1870-1880.

I am modelling the line north to Orangeville. the layout starts at Cheltenham and goes north.

I have a website if you are interested:

N / Re: Your Favorite N scale Locomotive

My favourite would be a Steamer...

Hard to decide,

For looks it is either the Atlas 2-6-0 Mogul or my Bachmann 4-4-0 Jupiter.

For performance on my old DC layout, either the Atlas 2-6-0 Mogul or Model Power's 4-4-0

Now that I am running a DCC system, it would either be my Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 Consolidation with NCE decoder or the MP 4-4-0 with NCE decoder.

Note: I have not yet tackled the 2-6-0 or 4-4-0 decoder install :)

I too would like to see a 4-6-0 DCC ready, better yet DCC equipped.

I don't know about small, Atlas has their little 1880 style 2-6-0 Mogul, it works great. And with the new mini DCC decoder from NCE, it can become DCC capable.

So I know small steamers can be equipped with DCC.

What are the chances of manufacturers offering new locos in two styles...
DCC for those of us who want to run our locos and DC for those still wanting to be switchmen.  :)

I would also love to see Bachmann redo their 4-4-0s but Spectrum quality and DCC ready/equipped.

I wonder what the Bachmann thinks of this idea.....  :D

N / any chance of DCC equipped steamers?
May 17, 2008, 07:23:07 AM
Not everyone loves deisels...

I would like to be able to purchase some small DCC equipped steamers.

What are the chances of new Spectrum 4-4-0, 2-6-0, 4-6-0 and 2-8-0 with factory installed DCC.

Let's face it DCC is the way to go. With base units under $200.00 and decoders around $20.00 more people are going DCC.

Only problem is that my soldering skills are lacking, sure I can solder feeder wire to rail and buss wires, but I am not good enough to solder the wires into a small N steamer.

What say Bach-Mann, how about new small Steamers with factory DCC?
