Title: Spectrum 4-6-0 tender
Post by: marjer on November 22, 2008, 10:43:50 PM
How  does one remove the coal/water part (H114X00MO1) on the tender so I can install a decoder?

Dear Marjer,
The screws are under the tender floor.
Have fun!

Hi Bach-man

I see three screws, two attach the wheels, and one attaches the rear coupler.  Do you mean the wheel screws hold the  top on?  Marjer

Here is the location for the screw. The parts diagram shows it but it is not very obvious until you remove the rear wheel on the front truck. Two "hooks" act as hinges at the rear of the shell so lift the front of the tender carefully.

I have modified mine for a decoder.

Do not remove the screw for the trucks but do make sure the nuts are on firmly after opening. Put a dab of CA to make sure. You can see the nuts for the truck screws on the below picture.

Be advised if a truck swivels completely around, you will get a short when loco and tender are on on the track.
