Title: lubricate open trolley?
Post by: gaichele on May 21, 2008, 10:14:23 PM
Is it possible to lubricate the open trolley without taking the mechanism apart?

Dear George,
It's fairly easy to remove the bottom plate. That is all the disassembly that's needed to lubricate the streetcar.
Have fun!

Thanks! By "remove bottom plate" do you mean remove the entire mechanism (motor + gears/axles) from the bottom of the trolley? It looks like it's all enclosed in a single plastic "box."

Dear George,
The side frames snap out, but can remain in for lubrication. The screws release the bottom plate of the power block, which gives easy access for lubrication. The entire block can remain in place.
Have fun!

George,

The four screws on the ends of the motor block retain the mechanism in the trolley.  The screws inboard from the ends will open up the mechanism.
Usually there is plenty of white grease in the mechanism, if not be  sure to use synthetic grease.
