Thank you, ton, and yes, I am thinking to hardwire a new control/sound recorder.  My mallet will arrive this week, and I will check the wiring.  I will hope to sell the tender with decoder.

Thank you for being so helpful.

Thank you for the response, ton. A very nice cab.  I hope someone will share their experience modifying the wiring.

Looking for a wiring diagram and perhaps some insights from anyone who has done this mod.

Thank you

anybody experimented with increasing the rolling resistance on stock trucks?   free-rolling trucks are a headache for uncoupling with kadee magnets, plus, i'd like to hear the engine strain just a bit to move a loaded car.    i have put a piece of 0.015 piano wire through the truck bolster which then pressures the axles a bit but wonder if there is a better way.

also, do the kadee On30 wheels change rolling characteristics one way or the other?

thanks

mike, thank you so much for the referral to train master tv.   did not know there was such a resource.   $7 for a month of videos, especially when there is one focused on pretty much exactly what i intend to do is a deal.

so very happy that i don't have to squeeze everything back into the tiny HO body.......  i envy those of you whose eyes are still good enough to see HO.

there is a good article in the 2013 On30 Annual about using the HO 45 ton engine as a platform for an On30 critter.   just took delivery of one and am amazed at how small it is.   straight out of the box, it creeps more slowly than anything else i own.  a bit of noise from the axle gears.   outside rods are kind of fun to watch.   hope to figure out how to install sound since the On30 cab will have plenty of room.   on the whole, a pretty neat little engine.

Yes, there will be a new body based on an article I just discovered in a past On30 Annual.  Actually, I just discovered On30 Annuals and have found them to be full of excellent information for those of us who still want to build models but no longer have the eyes for HO.

The new body will make space a non-issue.  I am not much-talented when it comes to things electronic which is why I was in hopes that there is an 8-pin socket inside the 45-ton engine.  Have scoured the internet and am finding no information about how an install is actually done.   My unit will arrive next week, so at that point I will have a better idea what I am in for.

I have seen the LokSound seems to be the preferrred decoder, partly because of the size and partly due to the option to download the accurate sounds of catapillar diesels.

Still grateful for any additional help from anyone out there.

HO / Install sound in 45 ton diesel

Intending to purchase and convert to On30 with sound.  Since DCC is already OEM, is there an 8-pin connector for a sound modul

Hints about sound installation?

Thank you

On30 / Re: Installing RCS WOW 1516 into On30 Climax

thanks for the thought, hunt.    i sent an email to tis tech support, and their response indicates that i'm good to go with using the bachmann 8-pin socket.   norm did mention that i'll have to do some playing with the chuff rate to get something close since the 1516 is pretty much for rod engines.

On30 / Installing RCS WOW 1516 into On30 Climax
January 11, 2017, 11:21:54 AM
installed speaker and bachmann sound module into one climax and now intend to install a 20mm speaker and TCS WOW 1516 into a second.   is there anything more to it than installing the speaker below the current PCB, then connect the TCS to the Bachmann PCB with an 8-pin to 9-pin adapter?

thanks

On30 / Re: CV question syncing speed and sound
January 04, 2017, 04:31:11 PM
current CV settings-   + = default after CV8 reset to8

5-  64
6-  32
7-  83+
8-  141+
25-  12
29-  18
66-  128+
95-  128+
105-  0+
106-  4+
116-  75+

sound begins well in advance of wheels turning.   momentum seems a full 9    wheels turn much faster than a 64, and sound seems a full 255

thanks for being helpful

Hunt, thank you very much for your helpful response.     we have reset CV8 to 8 several times and done a number of different combinations before pretty much deciding that for now we will not attempt to alter top speed.

thanks for pointing out CV116- will dink with that soon.

will pose again if/when i find some good settings that give me control over max speed and good sound sync at that top speed.

for now, i do appreciate CV8 and wish that all of life were so simple to reset and redo.

On30 / Re: CV question syncing speed and sound

update, i had noticed that on the soundtraxx heisler sheet CV 5 and 6 are not listed, but my throttle showed settings out of the decoder, which is why i went ahead and changed them.

just saw a youtube video where the presenter says that CV 66 and 95 are actually used to set-up max speed.    on the sheet, they are labelled Forward Trim and Reverse Trim, so i'm thinking that i'll reset and give them a try.

little by little i'm moving toward decorder pro, you think?

update #2.    i've reset the bachmann sound decoder with cv 8 to 8 and just did mods of the CVs via the NCE protocol, programming on the main.  all works as advertised, other than the fact that when the wheels top out at max speed of 64, sound still is running full-speed ahead.

thanks for being helpful if you have the silver bullet.

On30 / CV question syncing speed and sound
December 30, 2016, 10:55:32 PM
very much a noobie with CV adjusting.    just reset CV 5 to 64 and CV6 to 32- at speed step 28 i am getting the max engine speed that i want to keep my grandson from doing wheelies in the yard.   sound, however, at speed step 28 is still acting like i am going 100 mph.

what CV(s) do i need to adjust so that sound syncs with speed?

thanks for your help.

very much appreciate the links for resetting CV values on the heisler.    am new to DCC sound and finding it wonderfully fascinating and a bit overwhelming but worth the effort to learn.
