HO / Re: Bachmann Phase V Amfleet Questions
January 25, 2012, 03:17:50 PM
Thanks for the help. I bought some Walthers phase IVB amfleets and they look great. When the Bachmann ones are compared to the Walthers, you can tell the paint is purple. When theyre running together, however, it's not really noticeable. I guess the dents in the doors are just an isolated problem, but I don't have pics at the moment. Thanks again.

Given these points and how "it all adds up" the price may not be all that absurd after all:
"... revised Superliners feature a real-metal plated finish ..."
"* Full Upper & Lower Interior * " - sort of "1.75 cars worth in one body"
"... and feature full underbody detail to match the prototypes, ..."

Yes, this is true. But, I have a couple of the new metal plated finish phase IV Superliners, and they would not be worth the price the California cars are. The detail is the same, just a different paint job. And they can get away with it considering they're the only ones making the cars and have no competition for them.

The product could be profitable, however, considering the price of the Walthers cars. It's doubtful that Bachmann will do this though.

HO / Bachmann Phase V Amfleet Questions
December 29, 2011, 11:21:46 PM
I received a Bachmann Phase V (actually should be IVB) for Christmas, and had a few questions about them.
1. The shade of blue almost seems too purple. Is Bachmann using the correct shade of blue for these Amfleets? And has anyone else noticed this?
2. The diaphragms are silver. Shouldnt they be black?
3. There are dents in each door of the car. Is this a manufacturing defect of my car, or is it a known problem?
Thanks in advance.

HO / Re: Unstoppable film - 777, 767, and 1206 HO model

It's a next-to-none chance that these engines will be made. The movie was not famous or well known enough to have models be mass produced and be profitable. A few people on YouTube have made some models of them, and making your own wouldn't be too hard if you have experience painting and decaling models.

That bridge looks sweet. I'll admit though, the modern Acela looks a little wierd going over an old bridge like that... But it's cool nonetheless. Keep up the good work on the layout.

i have a similar question but its for being a motorman for a public transportation system (Cleveland RTA rapid trains) and was wondering if volunteering for a local scenic railroad would count as experience?

It should. Definitly wouldn't hurt to put it on your resume  ;)

Hmm. That's interesting that you can't get a job in the field until 21. Guess I'll have to find a job in the mean time. Although maybe college too... Just gotta find a job first  :P

Thanks for all the info guys.
JerryB: I understand the life of a railroader. Long and sporadic hours, and long periods of time away from home. I'm willing to do that. Both of my uncles were railroaders at some point in their lives. One working for Ford driving an SW1200 (not gone for long periods of time) and my other worked for Conrail (may have just worked in a yard... I'll have to ask him). The only reason I chose the four railroads listed is that they are all around my area (Metro-Detroit). You see BNSF, but rarely, and id like to stay here if I possibly could. I did read Detroit was getting a commuter line... So if that happens that's another opportunity. I'm still considering College, but unless I absolutely have to, I plan on not going. And it would be nice to just find a railroad-related job once I get out of high school, so I would apply for engineer once I reach 21.

Thanks again for all the info.

Blink-

This board isn't at all likely to help you obtain employment with a railroad or anywhere else. If you're sincere in wanting a job at a railroad the best place to start is at the employment office of your nearest railroad. And then the second closest, and so on. You might also want to check with your state employment office. But as much as we might want to help you here, we cannot. So go for it with the people who can help you.

I wasn't trying to get a job through here. I just wanted to clear up some questions I had on the requirements. And also get some input on others' opinions (if they have any) on the best railroad companies to work for  ;)
