Title: Programming using NCE 5 amp Power Pro
Post by: brlerche on February 24, 2009, 08:46:23 PM
Just purchased unlettered Shay with sound and power decoders, is there a step by step procedure to programming on programming track or mainline using the NCE 5 amp power pro.  Right now, I get "cannot read" when trying to recognize decoder manufacturer and version.  Am still familiarizing myself with DCC system.

You can try to continue from that point.  Just try to program the short address to some other number then 3.  Then try it on the main.  If it works then you can go back to the program track.  Some sound decoders draw to much current on the program track.  Several people make 'Program Track Boosters' that will over come this problem.

Befor you buy one of the 'Program Boosters' try to use the 'Program on the Main'.  The manual that comes with the Power Pro should cover this.  I had to use it to program my Bachmann Large Scale Shay.  Once more, try to program the short address and then try to run the locomotive.
