General Discussion / 44 Tonner Trucks
March 16, 2008, 11:10:35 PM
Hi guys, my 44 tonners gearing is completely shot...
Just wondering if anyone has a dead 44 tonner, or one they aren't using that I could canabalize. I would send it back, but it is custom painted and superdetailed...

Hi guys, just wondering if any of you might have the Narragansett Pier Railway & Navigation Co.'s Website?

Thanks,

General Discussion / Your Holiday Layouts
December 21, 2007, 07:37:50 PM
Who here has trains around the tree?
Post some pictures for the enjoyment and envy of the other members ;)

No EZ track for a layout after I sent it away to Plasser. I left the Maerklin Equipment and track down in Rhode Island so no layout for me this year.
I have some Maerklin pix from a couple years ago.
I've also included a CRUDE  map :)

Its quite fun. I can operate 4 trains independently with Maerklins System which is somewhat  like a very simple DCC system.

I usually have a switcher working the small yard (in North Grafton, not the Passenger+Work Train Yard in Grafton Center) which doesn't interfere with mainline trains by use of a double slip switch. Sunnyville is where the lines divide to circle the tree to access The North Woods, the German Federal Railway Interchange, and the Pine Needle Supply Farm. There are 2 sets of remote crossovers near Sunnyville (The long straight run towards Sunnyville is beneath the sofa...) I can run 3 mainline trains consisting of a local passenger, and express passenger, and a fast freight. If I want something more fun I will give the Fast Freight a hotbox and have it stop outside Sunnyville, so we would then have to operate on single track between Grafton and the North Woods. :)

Time for pictures lol...

The first train of the day is not very well patronized and only suggests a short train of small older wooden coaches.

The Express Train from Sweden has arrived in Grafton. After Turning the Set on the balloon loop, they backed her into the station.

The work train sits int he Coach yard in Grafton.

A rush hour commuter train emerges from the Tunnel Under Sunnyville.

Harvesting Pine Needles for the production of creosote.

The work train and a set of Bavarian Express Coaches in the Grafton Yard.

North Grafton's Freight Yard

A set of truck chassis set for unloading on the North Grafton Team Track

A car of scrap metal from the local scrap yard sits on the yard lead. The Engine house is behind the scrap car. A morning commuter train enters North Grafton while the tail of a fast freight disappears from view.

A freight train prepares to enter Sunnyville Tunnel.

Two Cars sit on the DB interchange awaiting pickup by the local freight crew. With the masses of Commuter, Express, and Fast Freight trains in the daytime hours, all the local freight trains must run at night.

A speed restriction at the North Woods curve was not obeyed...

The Yard Crew needed to use the Mainline as the lead was too short to accommodate the large cut of cars. Unfortunately the yard crew did not reset the mainline switch when a morning Rush Hour train came flying towards Grafton.

Thomas & Friends / To clarify for you Thomas Fans...
December 02, 2007, 09:26:27 AM
I saw Mr. B this weekend at the annual train show. I thought of you guys due to the Thoma race at the kids club. So, I asked him. There is not a moving front bogie. There is some lateral play witht he front axle. The second axle is fixed. The Driver is Fixed. There is lateral play in the last axle.  Emily looked fine minus a smoke stack that mysteriously dissappeared.

GWR Pannier tank drops off a loaded gondola at the South Hampton Coal Yard on the Portsmouth, Gloustershire, & South "Hampton Railway. The cold front as passed leaving a light layer of snow on the ground but the rain is coming down heavily.

HO / Several Questions!
October 29, 2007, 03:23:11 PM
Okay, So I have a few questions for you guy regarding DCC...

1. Is it possible to have alternating ditch lights flash on a model? If so how would one go about doing this.
2. Is it possible to set off the ditch lights by turning on the bell? If so how would one go about doing this.
3. Is it possible when running a trainset in reverse (Locomotive on head end, cab car on rear end, with separate decoder) With the Locomotive and Cab Car MUed, to set off the ditch lights in the cab car when turning on the bell I set off the ditch lights? Also, can it be done so that the lights on the cab car don't flash when I turn the bell on going forwards. If so how would one go about doing this.

And other Questions...
4. How hard is it to install a decoder in an Athearn GP40X.
5. How much does a lighting decoder which has the possibilty of alternating ditch lights go for(no motor etc)?

Thanks,
Alex

General Discussion / Lets Introduce Ourselves!
October 27, 2007, 08:14:14 PM
Just following through from the Old Forum. Tell us a little about yourself, like what you model, what era you model, or whatever else you want to say about yourself. Please try not to post anything too personal for example- Hi I'm Joe Mama, I live at 1 Main Street, New York, New York. My phone number is 1-123-234-3456. Keep it Clean.

Hi I'm Alex!
I model the Boston & Maine in HO between the 30's and 50's along with some Modern Equipment, mostly from Massachusetts(MBTA, Guilford). I also model a fictitous Boston & Maine subsidy set in 1950 in G scale.
I live close to Boston and enjoy riding Boston's Commuter Rail Network!

HO / Diameter of 2-10-2's smokestack?
October 25, 2007, 10:34:15 PM
If anyone has some free time could they measure the diameter of a spectrum 2-10-2's smoke stack. I was working on my module outside and I moved the 2-10-2 and thought I heard something fall yet dismissed it until I realized something had fallen. Just need the diameter to buy a piece of brass pipe to use in its place for now.
Thanks,
Alex

Williams by Bachmann / Several Questions!
October 23, 2007, 03:26:09 PM
Will Bachmann continue the Williams Legacy of MANY roadnames per model?
Williams usually produces many roadnames per product. Judging by other scales only several roadnames are often branded on equipment? If/When Bachmann is to create a new model, will  they continue to put many roadnames similar to what Williams did, or gradually slow down into what would be a fraction of the number Williams used...

Next...
Will there be something similar to a Standard and Spectrum line of models?
Is it possible there might be 2 Rail models offered in the future.
Is it possible there will be spectrum buildings if you guys do decide to go  2 rail?
Could you bring back the 72' streamliners?
Thanks!
Congratulations on the acquisition. I have to say Williams has done a magnificent job and am sure you guys can continue.

Bachmann has entered O gauge with their acquisition of Williams Trains. If Bachmann were to win the rights for Thomas over Lionel, then I am fairly sure you Mini-Foamers might get some accurate models...
