HO / Bachmann Sound Value 2-6-0 has no sound
October 17, 2019, 10:37:28 PM
I have a nice little 2-6-0 that I purchased last year. It did sound great but about two months ago the sound totally stopped. The light still works fine and it does run. Just no sound what so ever.
I have tried a reset several times. I have re-assigned the engine number into the address. Same results. It runs, light functions, no sound. I believe my next step is to send it to Bachmann and see if they can make it work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

KT

HO / Re: ALCo 2-6-0 DCC Sound Onboard not working

Well, I appreciate all the suggestions.
I opened the tender and found all the wires 'appeared' solid. They were held in place with those push on clips. I removed the clips and soldered each one to its respective tab. Looked at everything else but found nothing that seemed loose or damaged. Reassembled everything and tested. Same issue. Engine runs find, headlight works, no sound.
I considered simply replacing with a new decoder but at my age.....I've had enough of that. Time to send it in and see what Bachmann can do for me.

Strong possibility. I haven't disassembled anything yet but that is the next step. Thought I might get some suggestions first. With this computer technology you never know.

HO / ALCo 2-6-0 DCC Sound Onboard not working
May 25, 2019, 07:26:39 PM
I have a PRR ALCo 2-6-0 with DCC and Sound OnBoard, #51801. I've owned this loco for about two years. It sits on my layout with a short freight train in tow. It operates for about an hour or so each month. Even when I am operating other locos it it still sits on a live track. Recently I went to operate it and found there is NO sound. The loco rubs fine, forward, reverse, and the headlights work fine. But there is no sound of any kind.
I tried reprogramming it, setting it back to default, etc. Nothing changes.....it runs but no sound. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I really like this little engine. It's very disappointing that the sound is gone.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Well, son-of-a-gun! Reset worked. They both respond as I would expect them to. They are a little stiff and need some run time but they work just fine.

Thank you sir!

Thanks richg, I will try that right now and see what happens. I do know there is a procedure to reset everything but couldn't recall which CV it was.

Thanks.

HO / GP-30 with dcc onboard

I have two PRR GP-30 engines (#2205 & 2208) with DCC Onboard. I purchased both several years ago while on vacation at the Strasburg Railroad in PA. I placed them on the shelf and forgot about them while I continued building my layout. Yesterday I opened the boxes and placed them on the track. To my surprise, they are both dead. Neither will move. The only function that works is the rear headlight. No motion, no front headlight, nothing. On the test track they both show address as 003, default. I have not tried changing any CV values. If only one misbehaved I would tear into it but when both acted exactly the same I was puzzled.

Any suggestions? I have no problem opening them up to try fixing them but I thought possibly someone there just might have an idea what to look for.

Thanks for your time,

Kevin

HO / Decoder install, 80 ton three truck shay
July 17, 2012, 01:57:14 PM
I just acquired a Bachmann 80 ton, three truck Shay in mint condition. It has a DCC 8-pin plug in the water bunker. I want to add a decoder. Anyone have any suggestions? Might do a sound decoder if there is room. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin
