Title: noisy motor and or gears
Post by: oldie but goodie on March 06, 2011, 06:40:38 AM
Good morning all, I just received my new motor for my closed streetcar and the noise is, well, noisy like you wouldn't believe. I'm sure it is not the motor but the gears trying to mesh. I've had this b 4 and it finally did quiet down especially in my 4 4 0 but this is terrible. Any hints on what to do to quiet it. All my other streetcars are very quiet, I mean really very quiet. Thanks

Working under a good light and using a magnifying glass, inspect the gears for any moulding flash or stray bits of plastic.  These can often be removed with the point of an Xactor knife.  You might also check for split gears, although these tend to cause more problems with slippage than noise.
