Title: Adding Sound to Bachmann 4-4-0 with small tender
Post by: Greengrouch on February 07, 2008, 03:03:25 PM
I have two Bachmann 4-4-0 that came with DCC (motion only, no sound).  Both engines have the small tender (2"x1"x9/16")

I would now like to add sound to both engines.

What is the sound decoder that will fit the best.  Or is is better to remove the existing Bachmann decoder and add one with sound?

I installed a Soundtraxx DSD-100LC (low cost decoder) and a one inch speaker. I removed the decoder and pc board. It was ok.
I then installed a Soundtraxx Micro-Tsunami. Beautiful decoder. I had to solder splice the wires after I took out the pc board. Just my way. I had to add 1k resistors because of the LED light. The pc board has the resistor on it.
The decoder does not have a connector on it so you would have to install a NMRA connector. The decoder would probably fit.
http://www.soundtraxx.com/ The Micro comes covered with yellow shrink tube.
I have put this decoder in HO Roundhouse DCC ready locos.
