Thanks Hunt, I think that will work.  Any thoughts on the triple turnout?

HO / Curved turnout

Forgive me for asking about a non-Bachmann item, but since they don't manufacture one I don't see any harm.

I'm in the initial stages of planning my 4th and final layout since I've been absent from the hobby for a couple of years.
I'm thinking of having a 7.5 Shinohara right turnout leading into my yards, but I need to know what the outer and inner radii are.

Also, has anyone had any experience with the Shinohara three track turn out? I'm really concerned with any wiring anomalies or electrical contact problems.

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks you guys.  As long as there are not any major changes, I'll leave mine alone.  I agree with Ibrick.  It is one of Bachmann's best running units.  I ran mine with some period passenger cars and it really looked out of place.....so therefore nothing but freight for me!

I have one other quick question. I run my layout in two eras. One is all steam around the 1920's (Consoli,s, 10 wheelers, and 0-6-0s) the other is in the 1950's with F-7s, F-9s and SW-2,s.  My question is two fold...were 60 foot box cars appropriate for the 20's and celestory passenger cars for the 50's?

OK guys, please tell an old person like me what "Americanization" is.  I have a 2-8-2 SY and it looks like its from the 1920s. If anyone has any photos to upload, I would certainly appreciate viewing them.

Thanks RAM and DON.  White it is!  I thought that might be the case, but wasn't sure.

I'm in the process of making a two lane, asphalt colored, highway for my layout.  I model from the 40s to the 50s or the transition period.  I can't recall the proper lane colors used during this time span.  Was the center line solid white or broken? Also did the use yellow "no passings" lanes at that time?  Thanks to all.

Williams by Bachmann / Lionel switch connection

After 50 plus years I have dug out my old Lionel set and have started to set it up.  My question is this.  For the life of me I cannot remember how to connect my Lionel solenoid switches to my transformer.  I have a LW 125 watt transformer with five terminals listed as U, B, A, A, and C.  The two double A terminals are listed as "common".  I have my track connector wires connected to U and A.  They work fine.  To which terminals do I connect the three wires from the turnout?

Thanks, Bill

Hey Jerry, I wonder if the gentleman in the video is our beloved Mr. Bach-man?

Lee,
Thanks for the parts number clue.  However when I search"Lionel" I get only retailers that sell Lionel.  Know of any other websites?

Dominic,
Thank you also for your response.  What or who is CTT?

Sorry to be so amateurish about all this, but I just got back my old train set when I was a kid from my cousin and I'm trying to update and modify some things.

Williams by Bachmann / Lionel 675

I have a Lionel 675 steam locomotive which is listed as a K4 Pacific.  Unfortunately it is a Prairie with a 2-6-2 wheel arrangement.  I'm trying to locate a 4 wheel truck arrangement to change it into a true 4-6-2 Pacific.  Does anyone know a manufacturer that offers a 4 wheeled pilot truck that may fit the 675?  I've checked eBay for months and unfortunately the only items close to that are 4 wheel trailing trucks in which some of these sellers think it is for the leading trucks. needless to say they don't fit.

Thanks for any advice, Bill

You might try some dull coat in the spray can.  It takes the shine off the paint but leaves the color on.

How about the Rock Island's "Rocket" scheme?

It's my experience that missing parts fly into a parallel universe.  I wonder if the folks at CERN know this!

Williams by Bachmann / Re: The dreaded flicker
February 12, 2011, 02:46:50 PM
Joe,

I may have discovered the problem. But first let me address your suggestion.  Since my layout is a multiple continuous loop with one segregated block,  I set up a 9 foot section of straight track to conduct your experiment.  When all cars are pushed by hand, all lights stayed on and no flicker.  I pushed each car truck off the end of the track then reversed the car and did the same thing.  In other words, power was conveyed through one truck.  Then I put one of my engines on the track to do the same thing, and guess what......the flicker returned.  The problem lies with the engine.  There were the typical sparks emitting from the engine rollers.  There,  I think, lies the problem.  Looking at all of my engines, they need a through cleaning and two need the rollers replaced.  I have a Lionel F-3, two Alcos a SW-2 (I think) and a Lionel 4-6-2 Pacific.  So my next project will be to rehabilitate my powere units.  Unless you might have another suggestion I'll start my project but it will take some time.  I'll let you know of my progress as time goes by.

Thanks again for your help and suggestions. If you remember in the earlier parts of this post, my LHS said it was just typical of Lionel and offered no other suggestions.  That's why I love this Bachmann web site.

Thanks, Bill
