Title: Switch compatability
Post by: jeeps on November 18, 2010, 05:10:14 PM
Hi,

I am now pirchasing a Golden memories set with Bachmann/Williams snap track. Can anyone advise what switches might be compatible with it and if there is a place to buy additional track of this type? Their website only shows the tinplate style track.

Thanks
jim

Dear Jim,

Hmm, interesting.

The Bachmann/WBB 2010 print catalog has the WBB Santa Fe Flyer Set #00321 and the WBB Keystone Express Set #00322 listed in the "Traditional Line" portion of the catalog,

but on-line "Product Information" has them listed in the "Golden Memories" section.  I wonder which section is correct?

If I recall correctly, the track included in those 2 sets is Atlas-O Industrial Rail Roadbed track.

The listing for the L and R O-36 manual switches are on the following page, without pictures.  (Planning stages?)

The 2009 Atlas All-Scales Track and Accessory (print) Catalog shows a drawing of the switches,

but the older established track pieces have actual photos.

Here is a pdf file of the 2010 catalog.

http://download.atlasrr.com/TrackCat2010/92-132%20O%20Track.pdf

Page 117 shows pre-production sample photos of the switches, which are called "manual", however, seem to have the electrical connection posts for remote electrical operation....

I would wait for the remote versions, which will more than likely have a non-derailing feature.

Another option would be to use adapter track pieces (industrial rail to tubular) to allow the use of older remote switches.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik
