Title: DCC for HO USRA Light 4-8-2(item no. 81605)
Post by: jrmuel on May 29, 2007, 10:05:27 AM
I have an older Spectrum USRA Light 4-8-2(iten no. 81605) that I would like to convert to dcc.  I like to use Digitrax decoders.  Has anyone had any experience with this conversion?  thanks  Jim

Yes.  Cut the capacitors.  I've installed an MRC sound decoder in one and Tony's put a Tsunami in the other.

Gene - Thanks for the reply.  Before I get involved in sound I want to try my hand at installing a dcc decoder for this engine.  Any advice for installing and wiring, in other words "what goes where?"  By the way, I notice you refer to Virginia piedmont.  I am a member the the James River NMRA.  thanks  Jim

Jim, just pull off the shorting plug and install the deoder with an NMRA standard 8 pin connector.  Look at the wires going into the female connector and make sure the male pin wire matches.  Cut the capacitor.
I belong to Tidewater NMRA.
