General Discussion / Tracks Ahead on PBS
May 17, 2008, 10:55:08 AM
Our local PBS channel airs the program Tracks Ahead at 12:30 p.m. CST, today. Today's show is The Great Train Story, at Chicago Museum of Science. It should be interesting.
I thought I would post this in case anyone is interested.

I have seen these railcars in the local rail yard, and in some videos that I haven't been able to identify and would like to know what it is called and what it is used for. Description: Flat car, no sides, has a "truss like" structure running down the middle. From a side view looks almost like a Warren truss bridge sitting on a flat car. The view from the top would look like an "I" beam running down the middle of the flat car. I hope this description helps. I have just been referring to myself in my mind as a Truss car. What is it's correct name and what is it used for? Thanks.

General Discussion / Picture of my bluff
April 24, 2008, 07:44:35 PM
Here is a picture of my pink foam mountain, actually its a bluff, but in Wisconsin its a mountain. I still have trees to add, so I am not quite done. This is my first attempt, and I think it turned out quite well.

I purchase an HO scale NFL Express from Collectables Today and have received everything needed to run the train. First dillema, Unit B was not working at all, so Engine A could barely pull it, and cannot pull the additional passenger car. Collectables Today mailed me a brand new B Engine. Dillema 2, that engine does not work either. Not even a hum from B Units. A Unit can barely pull B Unit again. Comparing the F7 A from Bachmann and an F7A I have from Athearn, I have no problem pulling 7 passenger cars with the Athearn. The Bachmann F7A  will not pull more than 3 cars and throttle has to be wide open. I am very disappointed in this train set because the Shells are painted great! But not impressed at all with Bachmann engines. The F7A Unit sounds like its scraping as it goes down the tracks.
Anybody else have similar problems with the sets made by Bachmann? It was a beautiful collector set, but I am afraid I will have to send it back and have them refund my money.

General Discussion / NFL EXPRESS MADE BY BACHMANN
March 31, 2008, 11:10:42 AM
I have an NFL Express Set made by Bachmann, sold by Collectables Today. The set comes with an F7A and B unit. I believe the "B" unit is supposed to be powered, it is very heavy in weight (same as A unit), but the wheels are free wheeling, unlike the A unit. The A unit barely has enough power to pull the B unit along with one passenger car. Does anyone have any suggestions as to know if the "B" unit is supposed to be powered? I can't seem to get this question answered from Collectables Today, but they are sending me a new "B" Engine. I have a feeling I will receive the new engine but have the same problem. Can you tell me anything about these train sets by Bachmann? ???
