Title: Upgrading Loco To DCC
Post by: mitremark on February 11, 2009, 12:47:16 PM
I have a EMD SD40-2 loco that I am looking to upgrade to DCC with a Bachmann decoder.  I was wondering how I can tell which decoder to get, the one with the plug or the one to hard wire?

Hi Mark,

Please advise brand, scale and part number.  If Bachmann, part number should be 670XX for DC version.

Regards

Is that the Athearn, Bachmann, Broadway Limited, GSB, IHC, Kato, or some other version of the SD40-2? Is it H0-scale, N-scale or some other scale?  I believe Bob has assumed the H0 Bachmann version (this is, after all, a Bachmann Board) but his information will not necessarily apply to other brands.  Older Athearn units, for example, will require rewiring while the newer ones can accept a 9-pin decoder with no problem.
