I was wondering how you get the headlight off the smokebox without breaking the mount. Thanks for all your help. Bill Oberst

HO / Headlight on 2-8-0
February 07, 2021, 11:46:19 PM
I have a Bachmann 2-8-0 and I'm wondering if anyone  on this  forum knows a way to get the Headlight to burn brighter. On this model the LED butts up to a small plastic diffuser? and the light is very dim by the time it shines out of the Headlight. I have taken it apart to examine the LED and it's burning normally the voltage from the decoder is almost 12V so that seems normal. Maybe someone has modified another 2-8-0 without drilling out the headlight and placing the Led outside of the smoke box. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Bill

Thanks Man I've already checked at Tonys but I did get a call back from George at Soundtrax and I'm to send him pictures of the PC board. Thanks again Bill

HO / installing "Keep Alive"

I need a little help in installing a TCS KA-1 Keep Alive in a Bachmann 4-4-0 steam engine with a factory Tsunami sound board factory installed. I cannot find any part number on the board and need help finding the correct contact points. Thanks Bill

HO / Bachmann Customer Service
December 28, 2020, 04:12:08 PM
I have been trying to get the Bachmann parts or service dept on the phone for the longest and all I get is the recording, well you know what I mean. Does anyone known a way to speak to anyone in the office I need help from the bookkeeping dept.  Is it possible they just take the phone of the hook so to speak and never answer calls? Thanks Bill

I have a Bachmann 4-8-2 steamer that works very nicely but acts crazy  when a TCS KA-1 is installed. The keep alive never seemed to work but after I did a decoder reset just trying anything to make it work now the engine will take off backwards until what must be the KA discharging. The faster I turn it on and off the less time it runs backwards as if the capacitor is less charged up. If I remove the KA the engine runs normally. I'm positive I have the KA connected to the correct points on the decoder as TCS has a picture on their web site showing the connection points. I'm at a loss  for things to try and the main tech at TCS is out sick they say so I thought some of you guys might have a suggestion. Thanks Bill

General Discussion / Capacitor across motor leads?
November 05, 2020, 04:51:00 PM
I've been told by TCS decoders the reason some older Bachmann steamers  won't run correctly when you add a aftermarket  decoder to a DCC ready engine. Because that some have a capacitor across the engine leads that has to be removed before adding a decoder. Does anyone know about this and do you have to remove the shell to find it or might it be on the printed circuit board in the tender? I normally have real trouble removing the shell on Bachmann Steamers. Thanks Bill

HO / HELP! 4-8-0 runs slow in dcc but fine in DC.
November 05, 2020, 10:52:52 AM
I have a new old stock Bachmann 4-4-0 that will not respond to the speed increases using DCC until it  gets up to around step 30 then seems OK to each step increase above around 25. It runs very good on DC and will start moving on lower DC voltage thru 12 volts as normal. But on DCC from step 1 thru step 20  very little movement then at step 30 it responses normally. I have tried increasing  CV 2 up as far as it will go but very little change, I have tried adjusting the different CV's with JMRI decoder pro and still no help. I also changed out the decoder for a TCS model and got the same results. If anyone has a good idea please let me know   thru this board. Thanks Bill
