I think I see the first poster's point.

SR&RL Baldwins 10 (and maybe 9?) did have outside Walschaerts valve gear:

http://www.narrowgauge.iform.com.au/srrl-10.html

http://www.argyleloco.com.au/images/srrl10.gif

...but as many have pointed out, the models do have inside Stephenson valve gear:

http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/gallery/album10/aae

But, the (Bachmann) locos are also "supposedly" Baldwin catalogue locos, and probably was what was on those offerings.

Maybe why Bachmann chose non extant for SR&RL #s 11 and 12 for their offerenings?

Food for thought......

I was going to open a new topic but you guys already started it-  Wha I would like to see Bachmann make in On30 (I'll buy several and re-gauge them) is the ET&WNC piggyback car that they did in G Scale some years back.  That ought to be an easy one since the design work is already in-house.  gj

Or build one, they are simple enough.  George Gilbert did an article on them in RMC back in the 1990s, HOn3, but the techniques would be the same.

This might not be a futher small train.....I have drawn all these models on my computer but I just dont know how to put them on the computer.

Just hook your computer to a rapid protyping machine and go!

This technology is amazing, I have held some prototypes in my hand for industry, they are the same as a moulded resin model part (about the same as the Yellow Alumilite).

Once the prices come down.....

Ditto, with the same type of drive as the 0n2½ version.

To obtain the best appearance the trucks must have that lacy open look, and not the blocked in blobs the other LS Shays have.

EXACTLY....  I liked the LS Shay until I noticed that in person, really detracts from the model.  But I can see why they built them that way, basically a two (or now three?) motor loco.

Would the Bachmann Shay mechanics hold up to being driven in this way?

The only problem I could see with a "Disney" loco and cars is the Disney legal department and royalties?

Another option, while not a true Disney loco and being a 30" Baldwin catalog loco is the Olomana, now at Smithsonian (I walked under her almost three decades ago) that was part of Ward Kimbal's collection.

LGB made a IIm scale model of this loco about ten years back.

Thanks "Spule 4"

Here's a picture of one of those abondoned shays:

Note the wide wheels for working on "timber rails".

Thanks S.R for your contribution toward those restorations.

I'd like to see some pics of the shays with trees growing up through them! I doubt that they will be resurrected but at least they escaped
the "scrappers torch" ;)

No photos of the MS Shay, but one in in SC and one under water toward the bottom:

Early Glover locos and Glover re-builds would be another option, as Glover got a lot of its "inspiration" from rebuilding Porter locos when it started making steam locos around 1900.

As stated, Porters were catalouge engines, so the bits they (Bachmann) do have could lend themselves to some more projects.   The problem I see with the tender (or side tank) Porters is the extent that the motor goes into the area of the saddle tank?

My father used to make these, used a coping saw, some element wire, a bit of PC board, and a Bachmann trainset powerpack.

Here is a similar set up, found on Google:

Been on eBay since the 1990s with no problems.  All good advice, know price, know your limit, know what you are bidding on, ask questions, etc.....

....and know how to be quiet when you need to, I got a totally mis-listed LGB Ballenburg rack steam loco once for $45, they often break $500+, new from LGB was $900.....

Has the saddle tank version been discontinued?

www.lgbpola.com St. Aubins has them for $80. A couple guys in our club have them. They are nice locos, but fairly  light. I think some weight would make them run smoother.

I bought one from them, no problems. The weight in the rear would be best, they are nose heavy (big open spot for a speaker toward the firebox).  Neat model, the prototype was about 18 ton I think?  Would love to see these modern guys in On30, but since Grandt has one that size, I doubt it.... :-\

Ah, the USATC locos.

History here:

http://www.project62.supanet.com/USAlocohistory.htm

For HO, I thought DJH in the UK made a kit, but I guess not or it is not listed.  This page (en Francais) states that a company named Alexander made the kit:

http://membres.lycos.fr/depotvirtuel/newpage0.html

Maybe with this loco working in the US and with the USATC sending it to many contries in Euopre and some in China, there is a shot?

It would fill a void for a lot of modellers out there....
