On30 / Re: New Porters
September 30, 2011, 04:53:12 PM
Hi Mr. Bach-Man, hi Ton,
regardless of any price-comparison (which is regularly done here without "punishment" from my experience) I had hoped to get some useful information about headlight dimming on the new sound-equipped Porters in On30. To be honest I had hoped that my question hereto ("dimming headlights") could be answered by the Bach-Man himself. Any chance that might happen?

On30 / Shays with new gears?
September 28, 2011, 09:25:24 AM
Just ordered 2 of the Shay gear repair drivelines from the very friendly and helpful parts department (thank you Cynthia!) and wondered if the latest production On30 Shays (if they are still produced) are factory-equipped with the new and stronger gears?! Is this is the case does anybody know from when on they were so modified and whether there is any sign of this on the packages?
Thanks for any info

On30 / Re: dimming headlights
September 09, 2011, 04:14:23 AM
Steam user's guide and technical reference were of no help because they seem to rely on aftermarket Tsunami defaults. On my On30 Shay and Climax (both factory-installed sounds) the dimming function is activated by F11 but this does not work with the Porter. Things are not made better by Bachmann issuing with the new Porters the "old" information leaflet saying that the dimming function is factory programmed at function button 1 (F1) which is it definitely not on my Bachmann Dynamis DCC control. Any help from Bachmann?

On30 / dimming headlights
September 08, 2011, 04:02:17 PM
Hello all you much more technically gifted than me,

I own several On30 Bachmann Spectrum locos, the latest one a new sound equipped Porter (28203). It runs and sounds really fine, but I cannot find a simple (!!!) way to dim the very bright headlight. F7 as in the non-Spectrum Tsunamis does not work and F1 as directed in earlier Spectrum sound leaflets does not work either (both occupied by other pre-installed sounds). CVV 49 which seemed to me appropriate to try to configure it did not work, probably caused by my technical ignorance. Any help is welcome!!!

Thanks

September 14, 2009, 06:53:25 AM
Hi Mr Bachman,
is there any realistic date for delivery of the On30 2-6-6-2 DCC and sound equipped to the US by now?
Thanks a lot for any information.

On30 / On30 Rail Bus operation
October 21, 2008, 04:20:10 AM
Hi all. Is there anybody who can tell me if the new On30 Rail Bus can be operated without its trailer straight out of the box? If yes, are there any backup-lights on the bus?

On30 / Re: loco paint match
July 16, 2008, 09:35:25 AM
Hi all,
thanks for your help up to now. One more follow-up-question: Which commercially available semi-gloss clear paint is the closest match to the "shine" of the black Spectrum-locos? It should not harm decals or dry transfers.
Regards
Peter

Hi again and thanks for the answers... I forgot to say that I live in Germany where the Krylon paint seems to be unavailable... Any second choice?
Still hopeful

July 08, 2008, 04:41:46 AM
Hi everybody,

I am planning an On30 Shay conversion (new tender) and would like to know which comercially available color is the closest match for the original loco color. Can anybody help?

Thanks

On30 / sponsoring?!
June 26, 2008, 10:34:41 AM
Hi Mr. Bach Man. We here in Germany are quite busy modelling in On30 but are at the moment only a small group seriously into American protototype narrow gauge. The small group of enthusiasts in Eastern Germany I am part of is planning an On30 modular layout after freelanced US-prototype narrow gauge to be presented at various German model railroading events (eg. Intermodellbau Dortmund and Modell, Hobby, Spiel Leipzig). We have presented different layouts in the past with growing success and would welcome any help you or the German company branch are ready to offer. Thanks and best regards...

On30 / lubrication of latest production Shays
June 05, 2008, 06:42:55 AM
Hi Mr. Bachmann. As you will remember the first production Shays in On30 lacked gear lubrication and there was a complex lubrication description on the On30GUY-page which was helpful for me to lubricate my first Shay. The latest one I got is a factory-installed Tsunami Shay (28501) which runs basically well. Not only just for curiosity my question: Do these latest production models need the comprehensive lubrication of the gear-tower as well as the early ones or is the usual light lubrification of the externally visible gears sufficient? Thanks a lot for any information...
